Duke New Grad / SNIP 2013

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone. I haven't found a thread for this topic yet, so I decided to start one. Who else submitted their application on Feb 1st for the various new grad positions at Duke?

I have an interview for the new grad ED program at duke on the 10th. Does anyone have any information about how the interview process? It's an open house and I am curious as to how many people will be interviewing and how many actually get the job? I'm so excited and I just want to get as much information as possible! Thanks in advance!! :)

Hi everyone! Does anyone have a description of the New Grad Clinical Nurse I Job Description from this past November 25?

I got offered an interview for Adult Transplant, but I wasn't sure if it was SNIP or not. I can't really remember. Could anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

Hi TooProudToMention,

This is the info from the application from their website. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. Hope it helps.

When did you get a call for an interview? I just received an email that my application was forwarded to the hiring manager. Just curious! Thank you!

Nevermind, I was able to find a job description!

I got an interview for a Clinical Nurse I position not for the SNIP program. It says in the job description orientation is about 8-12 weeks.

People who have gone through this 8-12 week orientation for CNI, how is it? Do you feel they give you enough time for an orientation? Does this include something else besides preceptorship? Ie classroom time? I read about Duke's Nurse Residency: http://www.dukenursing.org/new-graduates/nurse-residency/.

Is a Clinical Nurse I position mean you are part of the Nurse Residency Program?

I am from California and would absolutely love to work at Duke, but I am a little hesitant about saying yes to the interview because of flying costs and not really knowing too much about how Duke's new grad program is. I will be doing more research of course.

I would really appreciate any information people can give me! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the information, MissRN2013! I was able to find a job description.

I actually got an email offering me an interview before I got the email notification about my resume being forwarded to a hiring manager. The time difference between the two emails was less than an hour.

I got the email offering me an interview the morning of December 5. Good luck!

Oh that's good to know!! Thank you! :-)

Are you a new grad? The 12 week orientation, I guess, would have the computer classes to learn Maestro (epic) and you would have a shortened preceptorship. I doubt you would have the residency classes. What area?

Yeah, I am a new grad. I know I can ask these questions in the nursing recruitment live chats, but I have to give my answer about accepting an interview before the next live chat. It looks like on the website all new grads can be part of Duke's Nurse Residency Program, I hope that means you are almost guaranteed acceptance if you are a new grad.

Can anyone who took a CNI position as a new grad talk about the program more?

Its a CNI position in Surgical ICU stepdown or General Surgery / Stepdown. Thanks for your question!

Good Luck!! I was considered a CNI as a new grad, but I was a SNIP and did 6 months. I really liked having the 6 months. I will be there a year in Feb. I still feel like I have so much to learn. Everyone is helpful. I think it is great place to work.

Thanks for the info, mmc51264! Yeah, I actually was looking first at the SNIP positions because I felt a 6 months would be really great for training and stuff. I know a lot of programs do it for 12 weeks, but I was wondering how it's like for new grads at Duke.

I know you did SNIP but would you happen to know what it is possibly like for new grads who aren't in SNIP? SNIP has a great structural program with classroom time and stuff and I'm wondering if I would get anything like that. It seems in the Nurse Residency Program you get some educational time outside of clinical though. Thanks!

Great news! I got offered to interview for the cardiology stepdown unit. I don't have my license yet.

Got an interview at Duke Main on their cardiac stepdown unit. That was my preceptorship at DRH, so I'm pretty pumped about it.

Anyone else in this upcoming round next week?

Hey Wrench,

I just got an email to interview for a new grad position at the cardiac stepdown unit today. Please tell me how I can prepare for this and what kind of questions were asked. I precepted at a telemetry unit, so I'm sure it was a plus when I applied for this position.
