Duke ABSN 2012

Published

Hey everyone!

I was wondering if there was anyone out there applying to Duke's ABSN program for the spring or fall class in 2012. I'm going to apply, but can't decide if I should apply for the spring or the fall. If I apply for the Spring class- I will still have 3 prereqs to finish (micro, soc, and stat) which I can finish before the program starts. Is it crazy to apply to Duke with 3 outstanding prereqs? Should I wait until December and apply for Fall 2012 instead? At that time I will be currently taking the last of the prereqs. Any advice would be helpful! Especially if there's anyone who has gotten into Duke with 3 prereqs to go...

So this group interview thing has me a bit of a nervous wreck. I am just trying to think of this way: if we got interviews, we are all obviously qualified to be there, it has got to be more about personality and if the school is a good fit. Don't you all think so? I am flying out of Memphis, Tennessee, to Raleigh on the 28th for the first Duke Days session. We shall see. And guys who are interviewing, are suits the best way to go? Or a polo and khakis? What is the general consensus?

Stephen

Congrats on the interview Stephen! I'm going to be there on the 29th too so we will probably get to meet... we might even interview together I guess, yikes! I do think a suit is the best way to go regardless. From looking at the threads from earlier cohorts it seems like everyone felt more comfortable wearing a suit. If it's too hot you can always just take off the jacket. I think I'll wear a suit.

@ tamarindo do you know how many applicants they had? 150 interviews for 50 spots right? I guess the odds aren't too bad. Where did you see that the group interview meant a group of applicants? For some reason I thought it would be a panel interviewing each of us. Either way it will be a completely new experience for me. I'm really looking forward to it!:yeah:

Did you guys all take Developmental Psych? I am registered for it (to take it in the fall), but I don't know if I'll be able to take it with my schedule so I was thinking about dropping it, but I don't know if this will affect my acceptance. It is a recommended class, not a required one, but I if I get accepted and I don't take it--do you think they would take it back? I wouldn't think it would be a big deal, but I don't want to risk anything--does anyone know anything about that?

hmgunc - I have heard that the recommended classes in no way impact whether or not you will be accepted. Which seems only fair as they are recommended and not required. This was posted on another cohorts thread and I believe the person had called and talked with M in admissions.

Thanks for the reply oaktown! I will probably email M in admissions just to double check.

hmgunc- let us know what she says, because I was wondering the same thing. I'm registered to take dev. psych in the fall too!

guys, i definitely wouldn't take a recommended class if it is going to make your life difficult! according to duke, they look at the "whole student" instead of being nit picky about certain pre-reqs like some other universities. i wouldn't worry about it!

Here is what the lady in admissions responded when I asked if not being able to take developmental psych would affect admissions decision:

Hilary,

This course really doesn't alter the admission decision, so if you aren't able to take it, it won't affect your chances of being accepted.

i asked about the group interview and thought you guys would want to know what to expect as well so here's what she told me. "the group interview will be comprised of 5-6 candidates with a panel consisting of a clinical instructor and alumni. you will all be asked a question and have time to respond then there will be a group activity."

is anyone on here other than me and stephen going to duke days this friday? it would be fun to go get a beer and chat afterward.

Hey there Cherith, I will be there Friday. Mmm, I think I'm even more nervous about the group interview after reading your post. Group activity... seems ominous! :sofahider It would be really cool to meet some of the folks posting on here! Good luck to you all!

I am very excited about attending Duke Days! Such a big moment for each of us. We have all worked hard to get to this point, and I look forward to what lies ahead in our futures in nursing. See those of you who are attending the August 1 session!

Hi everyone! So, I'm interviewing on the 5th, and going to be in town from the 2nd to the 6th- Anyone want to get together let me know! I'm excited to meet some future classmates (thinking positively here:)). Send me an email if you want to meet up. [email protected]

cheers!
