Duke ABSN Spring 2018

Published

Hello!

I haven't seen any threads yet about Duke's ABSN program for Spring of 2018 so I thought I would start one to chat with other hopefuls like myself!

Also, if anyone who has previously been accepted into the program, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! For now, I have a few questions:

- Does anyone know if they weigh all parts of the application equally?

- What is their acceptance rate?

- Any good tips for the personal statements? I'm finding that it's very difficult to articulate why I want to be a nurse without sounding cheesy.

- Where else are y'all applying?

I think that's all for now! I look forward to chatting with everyone!

This is the response I received:

"Yes, the financial aid package is final. We are not meeting with students during the month of August while we are in the middle of packaging the spring cohort and helping our fall students. We will meet one-on-one with the spring cohort in the middle of September.

The ”additional loan eligibility” is the maximum you can borrow from a private student lender for the spring/summer semesters. You don't have to borrow that much and there is no rush to apply for loans. We recommend you wait until you have the one-on-one counseling before beginning the process.

The federal loans are capped for all ABSN students since this program is considered an undergraduate program."

I hope this helps.

When I clicked on review financial aid, it says "User-defined text" with an amount in parentheses, but then says "You have no financial aid awards available for viewing in this aid year." How does yall's look?

I have the same thing as you. :/ Glad I'm not the only one without a financial aid package yet, but super nervous waiting (all over again)!

Mine says "inquiry access denied" and there is nothing to click on. Do we have to accept th offer first?

I've accepted mine already but it says not available.

I think they are releasing financial aid packages as they are finishing them, so I'm sure y'all's packages will be posted as soon as they are complete. Nora said they should all be out within the next two weeks when I last spoke to her. Obviously it's not ideal to have to take out a ton of loans, but hopefully our one-on-one meetings will be helpful and I'm sure it will all be worth it for the quality of education we will receive!

Is there a FB page for admitted students? I would love to connect with you guys. See you in January.

Hopefully a link will be sent to our Duke email once it's set up!

Hi All! I haven't been active on this thread however I was accepted for Spring '18 as well!

I wanted to let those who were wait-listed know that I applied for the Fall '17 cohort and was wait-listed. I received an email asking me to apply for the spring while I wait for a further decision for the fall. I was a little discouraged however they gave me a waiver for the application fee so I thought, why not. I did change my essays a little bit before submitting my second application. Looking back, I'm so glad I did since Duke was the only program I really wanted to attend. I know it's not the best scenario but if you're wait-listed now and are asked to reapply, definitely do so (given that you don't decide to attend elsewhere). The waiting sucks but you never know, you might get another chance like I did!

@ssen this is my exact situation! I completely agree!

Is the Facebook link that Nora sent working for anybody?

When did she send a FB Link?
