Duke ABSN Spring 2018

Published

Hello!

I haven't seen any threads yet about Duke's ABSN program for Spring of 2018 so I thought I would start one to chat with other hopefuls like myself!

Also, if anyone who has previously been accepted into the program, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! For now, I have a few questions:

- Does anyone know if they weigh all parts of the application equally?

- What is their acceptance rate?

- Any good tips for the personal statements? I'm finding that it's very difficult to articulate why I want to be a nurse without sounding cheesy.

- Where else are y'all applying?

I think that's all for now! I look forward to chatting with everyone!

I also received an acceptance letter. It also went away after I looked at it. Hopefully the problem gets fixed sooner than later. Congrats everyone!!

I emailed Nora and she told me the links in the letters were not functioning properly, so the letters are being regenerated today. She said we should get another notification email when the letters are available again.

We think the decisions are the same right?

Mine is working again!

You can now view your decision and respond to the offer! And yes they are the same

Does anyone know how Duke handles their waitlist? How many people are on it, or how we are notified if we are bumped up?

They don't notify you if you are bumped up. You are only notified if you are selected off the waitlist, and the process is apparently random. I was on the waitlist for the fall semester, and I never heard anything about the waitlist again. On person on the thread was accepted off the waitlist last cycle. But that doesn't account for individuals not involved on the thread, by I doubt very many.

Has anyone received a financial aid award letter yet? Out of curiosity, I clicked the financial aid link and it displayed my veteran's benefits. I hope to receive more than just my Post 9/11 GI Bill. Just wanted to see if anyone else has anything under financial aid.

@Goldenmoose I got my aid package too. I don't know if it's final, although I'm assuming it is if they have released it. I emailed Duke to try to chat with a financial aid representative to figure out some options because it looks like I'll have to take out tons of loans :(. I can let you know if they give me any useful info!

@bmadrid - Please let me know what you find out. I am in the same boat as you. I don't know how I can make it work without financial aid.

They said in the Duke Days videos that we would only get up to $12,500 in FAFSA loans. The rest will have to come from the Duke need based scholarship, other scholarships, or personal loans. They also said we will get a financial aid counselor to help us with everything and they will contact us in Sept regarding it. We are encouraged to meet with them before applying for personal loans. I know we are all excited and want to figure things out ASAP but I think we just need to wait for them to get our stuff straight as the acceptances come in and give us more information as they can.

So the need based scholarship hasn't been posted? Just the fasfa?
