Ivy Tech Spring 2018 Hopefuls
Following this topic because I'm hoping to apply in the next admission cycle. I tried to apply for this term, but the Office of the Registrar has been very frustrating to work with trying to get my English and Psychology classes from the school where I did my undergrad to count. Good luck everyone! (:

Duke ABSN Spring 2018
@GoldenMoose- I also applied for the merit scholarship and got an email on Aug 4 that I did not get it. I'm also thinking about going back to the drawing board and applying to smaller/cheaper schools with the goal of getting an MSN eventually. I feel like that's what a lot of the advice on these boards says as well. @aea5hs- I've just been using online predictor tools, but it does look like paying off $100,000 in debt, even on an optimistic $70,000 salary will take a long time! My friend who is a Physical Therapist accrued about that much debt getting her doctorate, and she shared that her plan is to be on an income-based repayment program for 20 years, after which (according to current legislation) the remainder would be forgiven. However, since that program is always up in the air based on politics, it's scary to count on. Thanks y'all for sharing, by the way. Trying to make the best decision is tough!

Is anybody else reconsidering or having a hard time deciding to accept because of the cost? I finally got my financial aid package, and it barely helps at all. This program seems so awesome, but it also seems a horrible idea to accrue $100,000 of loans in 1.5 years.

I have the same thing as you. :/ Glad I'm not the only one without a financial aid package yet, but super nervous waiting (all over again)!

Decisions were posted (or I least, I just got mine). Andddd, I got in! Fingers crossed for everyone else! And fingers doubled crossed for financial aid!

I also wasn't able to go, but Nora sent me a link to recordings of the sessions. I just tried to friend you so that I could get your email to forward it to you, but it seems this site doesn't let you message until you've participated in 15 forums for some reason? Anyways, you could also probably email Nora and ask for the links! I listened to the student/alum panel and it was informative.

Duke ABSN Spring 2018
Hey y'all! Could someone who is going to Duke Days ask about loan repayment/tuition assistance if you work at a Duke facility after graduation? Or does anyone know what the policy is? I can't seem to find a direct answer on the website. Thanks! (:

Thanks for looking that up! I also snooped around on the Fall 2017 thread. They found out on April 4th, which was the Tuesday after the second Duke Days event. If that pattern continues, we would get our letters closer to August 1st.

I just got an email saying my application got through to the next round! It also came with an invitation to Duke Days. Sending good vibes to all of you for similar emails (:

Duke ABSN Spring 2018
Hello! I'm also hoping to apply for Duke. However, I recently realized that tuition is higher than I thought, so I'm wavering a little bit. I'm sure I'd love the program, but $88,000 for four semesters just in tuition is kinda scary! I participated in the webinar this week about admissions and have a few answers to your questions: - They usually get between 350-400 applications and accept 70-75 students. So that's between a 20% and 18% acceptance rate. Eek! - On the personal statements, they said to make sure you're answering the question fully. Consider the questions your "interview on paper." I'm not sure where else I'm going to apply. So many schools have weird pre-reqs that I haven't taken and don't particularly have time to (ie- Ethics or Speech). UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Jacksonville, Drexel and University of Colorado all meet my preferred requirements (in a cool enough city/state, not excessively expensive, and no weird pre-reqs), but they all have such different application deadlines, it's confusing. Anyone else running into either of those issues? Hope to hear from others soon! - Jax
