So I've searched everywhere, and can't find anything on this. The Dilaudid Carpuject vial says sterile cartridge on it, and comes in a plastic clear tube as you probably know. Is there any reason why it couldn't be dropped in on a sterile field?
I haven't seen the vials- or maybe I have, and never noticed they were sterile but.....:
If the vial (carpujet tube) itself is sterile, and you can get it on the sterile field without it touching anything, then t seems legit. As far is it breaking by dropping it a few inches- it seems unlikely.
If you are really woried, drop a couple sterile 4x4s as a landing pad.

Or just wait until whoever is doing the sterile procedure can take it with a gloved hand. If you're going to be gloved, ask somebody else to open it and pass it to you without contaminating it.
I called the Hospira company who makes Carpuject when I couldn't find anything useful on their website or in Google Images. They advise that they do NOT package Carpuject cartridges in sterile packages (although of course the liquids inside them are sterile), so they cannot be added to a sterile field in the way we have been describing. The handles can be autoclaved, though.

As I said, the vial says sterile cartridge right on vial that comes in sealed plastic tube.
