Drexel ACE Program March 2009

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Just trying to communicate and hopefully get in touch with a few of you. This is a very intense program sure you all know and I'm looking for people who would like to form a study group or at least get to know one another before the start of school.

Is anyone planning on working?

Hope to hear from you!

I have my class schedule for my first quarter!!

Mondays suck. 8am-4pm, 1 hour lunch

Class 10-12 (Prinicples of Nursing Practice)

LUNCH 12-1

Class 1-4 (Health Assessment Across the Life Span)

Tuesdays, not (entirely)

Class 8-9:30 (Genetics in Nursing and Health)

BREAK 9:30-1PM

Class 1-4 (Health Assessment Across the Life Span)

Wednesday, fuller

Class 8-9:30 (Health Promotion - Teaching and Self Care)

BREAK 9:30-10

Class 10-12 (Prinicples of Nursing Practice)

LUNCH 12-1

Class 1-4 (Nursing Informatics Lab)

Thursdays

Class 1-3 (Ethics, Advocacy and Professionalism in Nursing I)

Fridays-Sunday - FREE!

Outside of that schedule, I think there are a few days I spend in hospitals (like 4 days during the quarter). Looks like the "easy" classes should be in the morning (Informatics, Genetics, "health promotion"). The "important" stuff, like labs, will be after I've woken up.

From what I see, it's 6 classes. So, nothing is "missing". I think the other nursing practice is a clinical every other week or something. What's yours?

For me it looks like this...

Mondays

8-10 (Nursing Informatics)

10-11 BREAK

11-2 (Hlth Assesment Across the Lifespan)

Tuesday

8-11 (Hlth Assesment Across the Lifespan)

11-12 BREAK

12-2 (Ethics Advocacy & Prof. in Nursing)

2-4 (Principle of Nursing Practice)

Wednesday

Nothing.....yet

Thursday

2-4 (Principle of Nursing Practice)

Friday

8-10 (Nursing Informatics)

10-11:20 (Health Promotion, Teaching & Self Care)

11:20 -1 BREAK

1-2 (Genetics in Nursing & Health)

I don't know what I was expecting....I guess I thought we would be in class a full 8 hours 5 days a week. Like I said, this schedule actually looks do-able!

Well, you're definitely missing Principles lab & clinical (say good bye to your Fridays!). You also seem to be missing Assessment lab. Both will be scheduled closer to the start of classes. Informatics lab isn't the kind you're thinking of, it's actually usually when your quizzes, etc will be taken, since there are only so many computers to go around. Also, my profs changed closer to the beginning of the quarter, so make sure you re-check your schedule right before classes start.

A head's up. If you want an April transpass, you have until tomorrow (The 4th Monday of the month) at 5pm to order it.

Thanks so much for your input. I also checked my schedule today and thought that there was definitely something missing. If everything stays the same, my schedule is identical to "sweels9".

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your "free day" will actually be a clinical day for at least 5 or 6 weeks. You will feel the crunch shortly as you juggle 6 classes. Some of these classes (informatics and health promotions, maybe ethics as well) will seem to be a total wast of time.

Good luck!

I'm still waiting for my schedule. Did the schedule come with a book list so that we can start preparing? It would be nice to have enough time to shop online for them before classes start to save money. Thanks for sharing everyone.

The schedule is online. If you go to .edu, there's a link to the Drexel ONE portal thing. Login to that, click the 'students' tab, and then 'schedule by date and time'.

ok i went on-line to the book store to get a list of books i need and there is nothing under department with nurs are the nursing books under something else?

i also just got my schedule and my principles of nursing practice nurs 200-067 is still tba but here is what the rest of my classes look like.

also some of my classes say lecture and online hybrid does this mean we don't havr to go to that class all of the time and just do the work on-line? that's what it meant in my other schools.

Actually, I don't think they are missing the Assessment lab. If you guys remember lecture was one day for three hours, and the lab was on another for three hours. Looks like they have it covered. All you are missing is the Principle's lab, which will be Wednesday or Friday depending on when you have a day free.

Looks like you guys have different professors than we did...that may or may not be a good thing.

Oh, LeilaTank, you might want to check your schedule again, I am only seeing ONE Princples lecture, I think you are missing one, probably Tuesday 2-3:50pm.

Book list will be e-mailed to you, but I would buy one quarter at a time, that's what they advised us.

Good luck.

Well, if you're up for it. Here's my profs list:

Ethics, Maureen L. Higgins

Health Promotion, Natalie K. Lenhart

Principles, class, Catherine M. Hasson

Health Assessment, Katherine K. Anselmi

Informatics, Mary Gallagher Gordon

Genetics, Ann V. Thiel-Barrett

If you have any advice on those professors (ie, those that test by book vs by lecture, those that ask questions that came from outerspace, crazy hard professors). (PM is fine for privacy if you want)
