U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just trying to communicate and hopefully get in touch with a few of you. This is a very intense program sure you all know and I'm looking for people who would like to form a study group or at least get to know one another before the start of school.

Is anyone planning on working?

Hope to hear from you!

Just an FYI for everyone that has not gotten their uniforms yet you might want to go and try the stuff on I thought I was one size from the size chart on-line and I am two to three sizes smaller the lady also said that they are getting orders for others schools and starting to get backed up. I got two sets of scrubs (the two pocket shirts) the lab coast, name pin and a few other things that I was told we needed like the pen light, goggles and scissors this all coast around $100.

ok i went on-line to the book store to get a list of books i need and there is nothing under department with nurs are the nursing books under something else?

i also just got my schedule and my principles of nursing practice nurs 200-067 is still tba but here is what the rest of my classes look like.

also some of my classes say lecture and online hybrid does this mean we don't havr to go to that class all of the time and just do the work on-line? that's what it meant in my other schools.

hey leilatank,

looks like we will be spending a lot of time together, we have all are classes together, can't wait to meer:yeah:

Hello LeilaTank & Nursin09student,

I will also be spending a lot time with you both this quarter. Looking forward to meeting both of you ;)

I just got my orientation schedule in the mail. It looks like they're not gonna tell us the book list until then. Hopefully, we'll still have enough time to buy them online. I really don't want to have to get them at the bookstore...

Check your e-mail as it gets closer to orientation day. My book list came the weekend right before that date. So if you haven't set up your One Account yet, you may want to consider doing it now.

Specializes in ortho.

Hi Folks,

I have the following books for sale much cheaper than bookstore for the following classes for ACE BSN: nursing informatics, health promotion and self-care, nursing ethics, APA manual and terminology flash cards.

[email protected]

E-me if interested.

hi all can't wait to meet all of you on the 23rd. so i was looking up when each quarter started and finished for the accelerated programs, i am hoping we follow this schedule let me know if you know otherwise.

quarter 1 starts march 30th and goes until june 13th.

quarter 2 starts june 22nd and goes until sept 5th with july 3rd off.

quarter 3 starts sept 21st and goes until dec 5th

quarter 4 starts jan 4th and goes until march 20th

FYI for those of you who are obsessing about preparing for the upcoming quarter...the spring book lists were just e-mailed out, so I imagine you'll be getting them soon. :) Hopefully some of us will be able to tell you what books to skip if you have any questions.

I got the book list! Just wondering -- it say no books for NURS 337 which is Genetics in Nursing & Health. Is this correct or is there a book that we will eventually have to purchase?

Unless they changed it, there will NOT be a book for genetics.

Thanks...which classes should I skip getting books for? Also, should I be buying any of the recommended books or should I just stick with the required ones?

I personally never cracked open the book for Nursing Informatics, but you do need some information out of there. Get the powerpoints, if you are computer savvy...it's probably okay to skip it. If you are not...and you really have a lot of time on your hands, you can get it.

Health Promotions...Now, if you are not familiar with medical terminology I would recommend the Chabner book, (sp?) it's actually pretty good, break it down to the simplest level. Skip the flash cards, it's pretty much annoying and useless. The Promotion book itself...I tried to read it, but failed miserably. Depending on how your professor teaches it, most likely you won't need it. APA manual...ONLY if you don't want to use the internet and have never done APA styles before.

Ethics...One of the sections had a lot of lecture, my class didn't. Depend on who you have. Again, another of those classes I never read for. But...we have the class again third and again 4th quarter...I would say don't invest in it right now.

Principals...ah...gotta love that one. Get the Potter/Perry text book. DO NOT throw your money away on the study guide and review/rationales, a LOT of the answers are inaccurate, so it's pretty much useless. Supposedly the previous edition of Review/Rationales is good, but you can get it from the library. I never used the clinical books either...it's collecting dust as we speak.

Assessments - it's only two books, and you will need both. The big one to read, the little one to bring to lab with you, it's a LOT easier to carry than the big book.

I think that's all. Ask if you have any questions. I am sure everyone will tell you different things, use your best judgment on what is good for you.

Hello All,

I just stumbled across this discussion. I will also be attending the ACE program in a few weeks. I'm excited but nervous! I will be living in Stiles Hall and hopefully parking my car in the garage across the street from the hospital.

I ordered most of the books today off of half.com and ordered my uniforms earlier this week. Hopefully they all will be here in time. . .

Look forward to meeting everyone on the 23rd.

p.s.--Thanks to all you current ACE'ers for the heads up and words of wisdom. It's very helpful especially when I'm stressing out getting ready to start!
