Drexel ACE Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey allnurses community! I noticed a group wasn't yet in existence for this cohort, and I was eager to connect with my potential future classmates. The priority deadline for applying to the fall 2017 cohort is October 15th. I received an email that my application status was complete on September 15th. The only thing I need to still finish is to CLEP Human Growth and Development. I plan to take the exam early October, and send my scores to ASAP. I am currently in a BSN program that I started this month, and my expected graduation date is Dec 2018. It is normally a 3 year program, but I entered already having a B.S. (which is not required at my current program) and many of my classes transferred in. I would love to be done with school sooner rather than later, and have always been attracted to the ACE 11 month program (and Philly!). Being that I would graduate fall of 2018 and from a renown program such as Drexel's, would be so great. I am so eager to hear back! After stalking the fall 2016 group, it seemed that the first people heard back at the end of October. I figured it would be easier for all of us applicants to deal with the waiting game together, so please don't hesitate to post if you've applied or plan to apply for this cohort!

Hi all - congrats on your acceptance to ! I'm in Q1 of the Spring 2017 ACE (11 month) quarter. So far so good but yes - it's a very intense program. I moved up here from Florida and felt really overwhelmed not being able to visit campus and go to info sessions, so I wanted to throw out the offer to email me if you have questions/feel overwhelmed. [email protected] (give me a couple days to respond - I'm probably studying :) )

Overall the thing I'm most nervous about is lab checkout but I know that if I practice enough I'll be OK. If you are a student that's prone to stress/procrastination/etc. this will be a crash course in reworking your approach. I've had to completely change my mindset when it comes to time management - and I'm only on week 4!

Best of luck & congrats!

@nish03 - start the Hep B series ASAP. Sometimes you have enough immunity after the first 2 in the series. (Discuss with your doctor and get titers after the 2nd set.) You may be able to get it in. If you can't, you should be able to defer until the next term. (this happened to me because my Hep B series was from 20 years ago and was no longer effective. I was accepted to the 11 month program and deferred by a semester. (Then a long story short, I decided to reapply to the 24 month program for completely unrelated reasons)

Hi Jenn! I've been accepted for Fall and can't wait to start, but I'm worried about the course load. I've heard that there will be a lot of time-consuming writing, have you had to write a lot of papers/essays for some of your classes?

Do we need to buy any of these books for Q1: Professional Nursing, Relationship-based Care, Concepts for Nursing Practice, Fundamentals of Nursing, Essentials of Pathophysiology, Calculating Drug Dosages?

There is definitely NOT a lot of time consuming writing... There's like a 2 page paper for relationships and discussion board posts for relationships and contemporary and then again for research Q2. There is probably more for leadership in Q4 and the senior capstone-esque class we have to take.

If you like textbooks, get them? I wouldn't say they're essential. I bought Fundamentals of Nursing and idk if it was worth it, but I used the book a little and the NCLEX questions online. Rent Patho if you think you'll get confused and need clarification on stuff - but tbh I watched lots of Khan Academy videos on YouTube and it's easier to understand than the textbook. The first three books you listed are pretty useless and you probably don't need them. Get the math book.

@nish03 - start the Hep B series ASAP. Sometimes you have enough immunity after the first 2 in the series. (Discuss with your doctor and get titers after the 2nd set.) You may be able to get it in. You do NOT have to defer if you are in the 24 month program, as clinicals don't start until quarter 2. You just have to let Ms. Feraud know that you are working on it and let her know where you are in the process. As long as you have it all done before clinicals start, then you are fine.

Now, if you are 11 month program and didn't get Hep B yet, then you might be in trouble, as clinical starts right away.

I'm a 24-monther currently in quarter 3.

Hello!

Is there a way to get into this program for fall 2017's 11 month as a transfer instant decision day? did anyone do this? or are the seats already filled? not sure how many people they accept each semester! I'm pretty late in the game.

Hi !everyone I was wondering if anyone else got accepted to 24month program for the fall of 2017? I was also wondering does anyone know if we can get financial aid for the program ? Or if anyone has worked while being in the program?

I'm in quarter 3 of the 24-month program right now and work full-time, one of the main reasons being that I get substantial tuition assistance from my employer. Also, I wasn't sure I could handle the stress of 11-month.

You can get financial aid just like any other program, usually 12.5k per year in federal loans and then whatever other private student loans you want to take out (if you qualify credit-wise obviously).

As far as working during the 24-month program, it's def doable, but you have to have strong will-power. Your Tuesdays and Thursdays are completely gone (work all day, then class for 3 or 4 hours after) and every other weekend (sometimes both Sat and Sun, sometimes just Sat).

Hi everyone! I was accepted into the 24 month program. I am still so stuck on if this is the right program for me. It seems so expensive. I'm moving from out of state and would be taking out loans for everything. 2 years in Philly plus the cost of the program, I'm estimating about 100k of debt. For those of you in the program do you think it's worth that much?

Sagar Patel, just add lubbock, with my name or stockton college, I just got accepted

Just at a curiosity is anyone commuting from New Jersey?

Hi, I got accepted to the 24 month program, however I have to commute from home, my dad lives in Jersey, I was just wondering is it feasible to commute from New Jersey?
