Drexel ACE Fall 2010

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Has anyone heard back from for the fall 2010 class? My husband attended the info session for me a few weeks ago (he works in Philly and I had to work late), and he loved the school. On their website it says you have to have 7 pre-reqs completed prior to applying, but then it says they will not review transcripts until after you are accepted. Does anyone have any info on this?

There are a lot of ACE students who live outside Philly. I commuted from NJ, and it wasn't a big deal. Second and third quarters, you spend three days a week at clinical anyway, so you may not even be in Center City (clinical sites are in PA, NJ, and DE). We did a lot of carpooling, both for lecture and clinical. We split tolls & parking ($7 lot near campus) and it was nice to have someone to talk to/get lost finding clinicals/do last minute studying with.

Just found out I've been accepted for Fall 2010! Very relieved and excited! Good luck to everyone who is still in the process of applying.

Hey all, I am not sure how many questions were answered on this thread but I have a few things I can suggest. First in ref. to job prospects and grads...those questions should probably be directed to Peggy Breslin who seems to be the authority on those types of questions.

There is almost no financial aid available for the program and most students get private loans. I am getting about 12500 from a stafford loan and a private loan for the rest. I have been told that you can not work during this program so am not planning on it.

As far as renting in Philly goes, I have a friend just north of Northern Liberties...there is always tons of parking and although it is not the perfect neighborhood, I have never felt too uncomfy there. If you have a bike it couldn't be more than a 10 minute commute. That is where I am going to live when I start my program March 2010.

Good luck.

Hey Everyone!!!

Just found out today that I was accepted for fall 2010 wohooo!!!! So many things to think about right now, but so relieved to have gotten in. If anyone has any info on the U penn scholarship could you let me know??? Still trying to look at financial aid, and I at least want to look at all possible options before making a decision. Also, I wanted to get a feel of what ppl are planning on doing in terms of housing..... I've been out of college for almost 2 years and although I don't mind living in the dorms again I really don't want to end up living with freshmen again... and I have a car which I plan on taking. I also have a dog which I'd love to take with me, but I know the program is going to be intense and I'm not sure how much time i'll have for him. Any ideas???? Either way congrats to everyone accepted so far and good luck to those still in the process!!

hey,

it looks like you and I are kind of in the same boat. I have been looking through 's housing website. They do have housing in center student for ACE students and grad students but its pretty expensive and the apartments are unfurnished! I'm thinking of looking into off campus, but since I'm not from philly I don't know much about the neighborhoods. Have you found anything so far?

Hey Kristen,

Nice to meet u!!!!

Where are you from? No, I haven't found anything yet.... truth is I just found our Thursday I was accepted, so I haven't really started looking to much at things. My biggest thing is being close to campus.... on-campus housing is pretty expensive, but I like the convenience..... i would deff. be interested in off-campus housing as long as it was close enough to campus.....

have u started looking at financial aid stuff? I'm thinking of maybe driving there at some point (I'm just about 2 hours away) and seeing if someone is available to talk about financial aid. I heard private loans will be able to help cover the expenses during the program so I'll be counting on that for most of it...... let me know if you come across anything....

Hi all! I found out last week that I got into the program for Fall 2010!!! I got my packet in the mail and was surprised to see that we are supposed to send in a $200 deposit already if we want to live in dorms. I am very on the fence as to what I want to do in terms of housing. Stiles seems a bit pricey, but then it saves the hassle of finding something off campus. I was hoping to have a bit more time to make a decision on what I wanted to do. Has anyone stayed in Stiles? I've been reading the threads quite a bit but haven't come across anything about living there and would like to get some perspective.

I lived in Stiles when I attended almost 3 years ago. Like you, I didn't want the hassle of trying to find an apt in Philly...especially since I wasn't from the area. I lived in a 3 bedroom unit on the 15th floor. I got really lucky and ended up with two awesome roommates whom I still keep in touch with. If you need the maintenance team to fix something, they fix it relatively quickly. A small laundry room that contains 1 washer, 1 dryer, and a sink is on every floor. The building is very secure. There are cameras in the lobby area with a 24/7 security guard. You also need to use your ID card to swipe in. There is a lounge on the ground floor with a tv and study area if you feel the need to get out of your apt for a bit. You can also reserve the room for events and parties with your friends. Overall, I had a really good experience. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask me.

Hi everyone!!

I'm in the Spring 2010 program, but just saw this post and was wondering if anyone had any information on the UPenn scholarship thing.. I haven't heard anything about it until I read it here, and am hoping to look into it if I still have time. Does anyone have a link they can send? Also, is this for their program or 's program- or just anyone in general?

Thanks!

I just found out yesterday that I was accepted for the ACE Fall 2010 :)

when you say it's alot of money, it's $34K, right? I just got accepted for the fall and am planning on attending but tust me, this is pretty cheap! Ive looked into a ton of these programs at good schools and they are all expensive. Some of them may be only like $17 but they last 2 years so it ends up being the same.

I live in Cali and the one near me is $54K!!!

hey 2011grad, sorry I didn't write you back earlier...I am from Washington DC area (northern VA). what about you? All I know about financial aid is that you have to fill out the FAFSA, I keep reading on this website that the government gives you $12,500 in loans and you'll need private loans for the rest. Right now I am trying to sell a bunch of my stuff (old textbooks and things) on amazon to try and get some more money! haha...

I haven't really figured out the living situation yet. I keep looking at the off campus housing website but there isn't much up there yet for next fall. what about you?
