Hey everyone, I am a new grad (Sept. 2011) with a prior degree who is going back and fourth with the idea of joining the Air Force of Navy nurse corps. Right now I work for a pharmacutical company and have my ACLS/IV cert and I'm looking to either do homecare or try and get in a hospital for now to get experience. I have been interested in both for some time, but figured I would wait until I passed my NCLEX and started working to try and enlist as an officer. Anyone know how it i for new grads trying to get in? Anyone know when the best time is to start applying. I am sure 2012 is probably already closed, so I'll prob have to wait for the 2013 fiscal year, this fall. Does anyone have any advice on what the application process is, what you'll need for the application etc? If anyone has any insight on what the process/officer training is like, please let me know. I've been thinking about this for a while, but allowed family/BF to get in the way of my dreams until I finally decided not to let anyone get in my way anymore.... Thanks!

Hey Bjorklover, Hows it going at Bassett? I've been trying since September in NJ and the city with no luck. I was offered an interview there back in August but turned it down to try and find something here, but with no luck I applied again and fortunately they invited me back for a couple of interviews. How has it been adjusting to life there? How is the hospital? The pay? the people? Would you say its worth going over there for the year to try and get the experience out of the way? Any feedback would help a lot!!!

Same with me ....but no she said it really depends on what unit u are applying to and when the managers have time to set up interviews if you are being considered so it could be two weeks form now or a month from now, but you're good as long as everything was in by the 12th of next month... I guess its just waiting form here on out

Hey everyone, Just spoke with one of the recruiters and figured I would update those who haven't heard/ are worried about application statuses. I was told as long as everyone has their applications and supporting documents in by 08/12 then you are fine. They are sent to recruitment first, then HR and then up to managers for review but all of this happens at different times, and I was told it not strange to hear back from managers up until right before the program starts, since they schedule interviews at their discretion an schedule. I am hoping that I will either have/not have an interview by the end of next month when I will be in Austin for a few days. So, for those that haven't heard anything yet, or just applied know that you are still in the game and they look at every single application so you have a fair shot :-)

I actually applied to all, but have a special interest in Acute care so I indicated my three choices for that. I guess I wouldn't really mind the other speicalties, being as I just want to get my foot in the door, but I would REALLY prefer acute care right from the start. The non-reply email says an HR person will be contacting me with further details. Does anyone know usually how long this takes and whether they call/email you. I've been trying to reach them, but it seems there is just an answering service

It took them over a month to let you know that your application was approved??? Wow I hope things work out since I have about a week until the second review of apps, but I guess they will if they are meant to be.... we shall see. Thanks mllnjill! Good to you

captain byakuya, How long ago did you submit your app and references before the status changed to "routed". I just found out about this last week, hence why i couldn't go to the fair, but sent in my app today with all the materials and will be faxing tomorrow the NCLEX registration paper. I guess I'm just a bit nervous that even though the first round of reviews/interviews just happened and the next one isn't until next Monday, I won't have my stuff in time to be considered. I graduate from an accelerated program in a few weeks and have 2 other interviews lined up, but this is my top choice, so I am hoping that if something happens I would know before finding out form the other places. If anyone has any info on timelines please let me know! Thanks and good luck to my fellow October 2011 applicants!!!

Hey guys!!!! I am also applying to the Seton residency for the October cohort! I am an accelerated program in Jersey and wasn't able to make it out to the open house this past week. Anyone who went, how'd it go? Did you get any information as to when they may start to contact people after the second round of review/interviews coming up. I am confused as to whether they will be contacting people on August 1st, or if they will begin to review w/e applications are there by this date and then choose applicants they want to interview. I am hoping that because its the October cohort, the number of applicants will be slightly lower, but either way I'm doing the best possible. To the current nurse residents, I am going to be in Austin at the end on August, and wanted so ask some advice, as to whether I should try to set up something to meet with the managers in person, or what? I am hoping by then I'll know whether or not I am going to be interviewed or whether I will have to wait and apply for the Feb. cohort.... just wish getting hold of someone on the phone was easier but it is what it is...... any advice would be appreciated

first semester 5 days @ jc, mostly 9-4 until Oct. when you will start going to the nursing home on Thurs or Fridays and the schedule for that varies.... you will also have a clinical test out at the end of semesters 1/2 where u have to partner up and actually complete an assessment and demonstrate your skills to the faculty... u get two tries to pass no one had any issues with it as far as I remember

Hi, congrats! It will fly by trust me.... as far as your questions: Its jersey city, so for those of you that are not from here... its not as bad as other parts of town, but I wouldn't leave your car unlocked... I usually park in the school garages, or on shorter days on the street since its free.... be careful though bc several of the students have gotten their cars booted since you need permit parking after 3pm. I live about 30 min away and usually we are out between 1-4 depending on the classes, and traffic can go either way on most days You will be in school 5 days a week... first semester its Monday through Fri... second semester u have one day during the week off and then clinicals on Saturdays.. EARLY.. so that sucks, but it goes by pretty quick. There is a 1 month long break from mid december through mid january, and then a week off in May between spring and Summer. Work Load is ALOT... even for some people that are very organized, the amount of work can be way to much... learn how to skim effectively and focus on the important things, because otherwsie you will sink. Also, forming study groups early is VERY beneficial... got alot of us through. One thing I cannot recommend enough is preparing for HESI early... we just took our second attempt today (u get three tries) and a good portion of us who didn't take it seriously the first time had to retest and passed today... there are still some people who need to take it, and I'm sure you know that without passing it, you will not get your diploma. I would suggest starting to do just a few questions in the spring semester everyday, because what ended up happening to some people was that we were given 5 weeks to prep and it took some longer than others to understand the concept of HESI and the way the questions are worded.... it is harder than the NCLEX and is all about HOW you answer a question, as opposed to how much you know. At the end, you'll finish in mid August, and from what I hear we'll be able to take the NCLEX soon after which is great! The last semester, once HESI pressure is over is really smooth sailing with a few annoying assignments in the way of your summer.... hope this helps

Hey, I'm finishing up the NJCU program in a few weeks (jersey city cohort)! The program is a bit disorganized, and some of the clinical faculty isn't the greatest, so you really need to be on your A game before beginning the program. The curriculum, classes, etc are pretty good and overall, the program gets u out in 1 year with a BSN, which is HIGHLY needed these days.... we had a recruiter come a few weeks ago and they said they really aren't hiring Associate degree RN anymore, and things aren't looking better in the future, since there is a push to get as many people as possible with a bachelors degree..... I would recommend it if you have a pretty good head on your shoulder and can get your work done without much babying..... we lost about 4 people this year and it was mainly do to slacking off.....

Hi, I'm interviewing next week at Hershey for the new grad program and wondering how you guys thought the interview was when you went through the process? Did anyone get the job and actually end up relocating? I'm from NJ myself and I'm trying to figure out whether the change will be from urban to completely rural, or what I should prepare myself for. Any advice would help Thanks!

Whistler, I could not agree with you more. Everything you said is exactly how i feel. I don't know if you were accepted or not, but if you were I look forward to meeting you in September. If not, I know you'll do very well and be a great RN....

I forgot to add that although I don't think giving an extension was unfair bc no one's file was reviewed before the deadline, I do agree that people should be able to take thier HESI only once....

Guys, I understand the frustration of those who were not accepted/waitlisted. Here is my two sense in this.... in regards to the extended deadline how is this unfair? I submitted everything back in December and when I asked about the deadline being extended I was told by NJCU that it was because they wanted to make sure they got anyone and everyone who wanted to apply and took thier HESI...... isn't this what eevrything is about giving everyone a fair chance? I know someone who applied a week before the deadline and I view her the same as I view myself... we both applied and took the exam and for whatever reason we were both accepted. Everyone got a fair chance when thier application was reviewed........ I know that pre-req grades, test scores and reccomendations counted ALOT... more than undergrad gpa and perhaps thats what did it for most people that were unfortunately not accepted. I can't speak for the administration and having known someone who went to the school last year I know it can be confusing and chaotic because staff can be absent minded sometimes, but in the end, its 1 year and we can all do it to finish and get on with our lives..... To those that made it congrats and I'll see you in the fall (I can't make orientation bc I'll be out of the country) and those still waiting good luck. What shall happen will happen
