For the sake of simplicity, I created a new thread.
How many points are you expecting? I should end up with 12 which hopefully gives me a good chance
What was the cutoff for the previous intake?
I have actually contacted the college about the diploma and degree options. if you plan on going for a degree in the end, you may as well just apply for the degree program. The diploma program is a 3 year fulltime diploma and when you graduate, you have to reapply for the next intake for the degree completion program which is at least another year in wait times and the degree completion is on a part time basis ONLY...so in actuality, you are probably 6 years from a degree if you go into the diploma then degree, opposed to just doing a 4 year degree straight away.
That isn't true. There is a form that you can fill out during your second semester of the diploma program, but it MUST be done before your second year if you want to get the degree at the end instead of the diploma. They save you spots in two classes like I said before, during the summer they offer you those spots. You MUST graduate with your diploma cohort, so fulfilling the additional courses that are required are on your own time, and on the application you must say how you plan to complete those. I'm not sure how often it is granted, but it is a viable option.
they offer you seats into the degree program, which can be done before second year, but it is conditional on seat availability in the program. So if there are program seats available in the degree program (aka someone drops out or something else) they will offer you admission into the degree program, if not, then you are stuck.
also, question was asking which is faster, going diploma then getting degree, or doing degree all together, not taking diploma and switching into degree.
Also, with the competativeness of the program, especially with the new score ranking for preferential admisson points, it is unlikely =/
If you have completed the first year of the diploma program, then you are farther advanced than second year students of the degree program. The first year of the degree program is almost entirely university courses, and no PNUR courses. The first year of the diploma is almost entirely PNUR courses. It would make no sense for them to take a 2nd year diploma student and put them into the second year of the degree program.
I think you're getting confused by the fact they also have a direct entry into second year option, which is when you take the university courses and ask for direct entry into the second year of Psych Nursing. That's a harder route, and dependent on available second year seats.
It's more difficult to get into the diploma program, I'm not sure if it's just fewer seats or what, but the first year degree program has far more seat availability. If you want direct entry into second year, you are relying on people who have dropped out of the program. If you take the psych diploma program, your seat in most PNUR courses is already guaranteed due to your program seat (except the two they save you a seat in the summer session for).
Long story short, if you get into the diploma program, and already have the majority of the courses for the 1st year of Psych Nursing Degree completed - do it. If you don't have the majority of the courses already completed, don't do it and take the degree instead.
Personally, if I get accepted into both the diploma and degree programs, I will probably take the diploma and ask before my second year to be allowed to graduate with a degree (fill out the form, take the 2 extra courses). I already have the majority of the first year courses for the psych nursing degree completed. It would take 3 years.
I have completed the first year completely. Its a shame because last semester I was given the option of degree ans diploma and took the degree not knowing I needed a second hear direct entry. This time around, I am confident I will receive the second year direct entry but I believe I will still go for the diploma program as I have the first year of the degree completed. Ill double check with the counsellors but I know there is some fast track program that allows you to work and complete the degree. So many options its overwhelming and confusing

If you have a majority of year one done, then switching from the diploma to the degree program can be viable. Provided the transfer is approved. I asked a while ago, basically you fill out a form, you're expected to fulfill the requirements for the degree program and graduate with your diploma cohort. They save you a spot in the summer for 2 courses (The Microbio one, and ..another one..) but you have to take them when the spot is saved.
I'm an older student myself, and I want to get into the profession as soon as possible. However, I only have a 3 year degree, and not a 4 year degree to apply into the Post-Bacc program at Kwantlen.
At least the 4 year program wouldn't be a lot of repeating courses, but the cost seems much higher than Douglas. I have so many transfer issues due to my old University not requiring "English" specified classes, and I took regional literature and history classes to fulfill the written English requirement.
