Douglas College Fall 2017 Nursing applicants

Published

Hi everyone, I wanted to start this thread for all the eager Nursing applicants just like myself! :) I have completed my 10 courses in Fall 2015, and have applied once for Winter 2017 but did not get accepted. Now, this will be my second time applying and I cannot wait to apply for the Fall 2017 intake! Anyone else interested in Douglas Nursing program Fall 2017 intake? :)

Hey guys.. so yeah I checked too.. bcit I had to take english again cause douglas doesn't transfer.. same with the bio''s they don't transfer to vcc. I guess she must have taken extra classes to classify.

Hey :)

For BCIT, isn't the english equivalent ENG 1130 at Douglas?

Hey,

Check on BC transfer guide.. I did my English 1130 and 1106 with Douglas but it does not transfer to BCIT. So you have to take additional courses to be abe to apply.

Ohh, I was looking off of the BCIT site where they showed the equivalencies:

http://www.bcit.ca/files/admission/pdf/bsn_course_equivalencies.pdf

Your amaze balls... I walked in there last year and they told me my English was not equivalent. Never trusting transfer bc again also.

Hi everyone! and rain2016, I only applied at Douglas at the moment :), and regarding with English equivalency, I took my Academic writing at bcit, which is the English 1177, and had it transferred to Douglas. Luckily, it's transferrable and equivalent to English 1130:). Although, when you go to bctransferguide, it doesn't really say that English or other courses from bcit is/are transferrable to Douglas or other schools, because BCIT doesn't carry university courses or doesn't have Academic Foundations/ General Studies program. Well, this is at least the academic advisor, from Douglas, told me.

Hi everyone and Leslie-dhy, i took the english at VCC and they are transferable to bcit. however, honestly bcit is very hard to get in. i applied twice and got in the shortlist for twice but then at the end i didn't make it. and my grade except two english courses are c+, 4 courses are A and another 5 couses are B or B+. really frustrated.

Where did you do the bios? :)

Hi guys. I applied for fall 2017 as well, but completed the academic foundations certificate at the end of the winter semester 2016. So, I am assuming my chances are a lot slimmer than you guys. This wait is just killing me!!!! :nailbiting:

Last intake favored those students who had their pre-requisites finished by summer 2015. This intake naturally favors those who had their pre-reqs by fall 2015. This is the part that means "first qualified, first accepted" policy.

You have those winter 2016 and summer 2016 people before you. So you maybe looking at 3 intakes later. You should start looking somewhere else if you don't want to wait. It is better to know it now. I would have been much happier had I known this a year ago.

UBC is still taking applications till Dec 1. You might want to try that if you don't want to wait.

Well that completely discourages my hope. Would you not say UBC is extremely competitive like bcit? This is so frustrating! It has taken me so long to finally finish my pre reqs at douglas. Especially since I decided to do nursing when they closed applications for the academic foundation for like 2 years and had to wait inorder to register for the bio's. Now another 2 year wait? This is crazy.

UBC is competitive but only looks at your most 10 recent courses (so you could technically improve your grades for one year and have a 4.0). They have just changed their review process to 3 parts, GPA, physician-designed personally test, and extra curricular activities. They are not sure what the weighting for these 3 yet. They are still doing info sessions and you can book one really quick .

You think that's bad. I started at Douglas a little late back in Sept 2013 and they had just closed the foundation program for 2 years. I only got in to the foundation Sept 2015. Assuming Douglas takes me for the Sept 2017 intake for my Sept 2016 application, I would already have spent 4 years doing for the first year of nursing. This is depressing .

UBC is competitive but only considers your most recently completed 30 credits. Technically, you can improve your chances by taking a year courses towards a degree. UBC has just changed their review process from 2 parts to 3 parts, GPA (most recent 30 credits), supplemental applications for extra curricular activities/volunteering, and Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics – CASPer.

Just book an info session and find out. Admissions | School of Nursing

I started out a little late in Sept 2013 at Douglas. Once I got in, Nursing Foundation was closed for 2 years. I couldn't take my patho and micro till Sept 2015. If my Oct 2016 application is accepted for the Sept 2017 intake, I would already have spent 4 years for the first year of nursing. By the time I finish my nursing, I will be 7 years total. That's longer time then 4 years of med school plus 2 years of family physician residency.
