dosage & calculations class?

Would taking this class during my pre-reqs help during nursing school? It's only 1 credit hour online so I figured it wouldn't hurt to take it.

If you struggle a little bit at math, it wouldn't hurt. If math is easy for you, this might be remediation. In my first semester of nursing school, we got 3 one hour lectures over drug calc, and by the 2nd one, I was bored. But, it helped a lot of the other students.

Depends on your comfort level working with fractions and simple "solve for X" problems. Med math/dosaging isn't very tough if you're confident in these skills. If you aren't, then go ahead and take the course. In our program, you continuously are tested each semester in med math. If you don't get a 90 or better on the math quizzes, you fail the entire nursing course. So....lots of pressure to do well in math. I just had my first taste of it in Pharmacology (which is NURS 200 at our school). They use math as a way of weeding out people.

I found it to be pretty simple, but then again...I like math. I highly recommend the book "Math Attack" (Strategies for Winning the Medical Math Battle) It's a GREAT book and it takes all the anxiety out of how to set up your dosage calculations. Once you learn the formulas...piece of cake! :D

Good luck!

It will definitely help BUT, I learned the nursing math in my Pharm class if you are good at converting and cathcing on quick, then I wouldn't take it but either way, you iwll be fine good luck :)

I wouldn't recommend throwing another class in the mix of nursing school especially since it's an online class and in my experience online classes are self taught anyway. Our program doesn't teach dosage calculations, they test you on it though. So we pretty much self teach. I'd get a book and start learning. It's really easy, just very basic algebra.

It's a class offered at my community college so its taken before nursing school. I haven't taken math in over 7 years so I wasn't sure if I should take it or not.

If it's been 7 years since you've last taken math I'd do it. It'll be a good refresher.
