Does your program require pre-reqs done before application too?

I'm really nervous that it's going to take me forever to get through nursing school here because the program I want/need to get into won't even let you apply until you complete all your pre-reqs and then you have to wait (2 or 3 years sometimes)! Anyone with the same situation? What are you going to do while you're on the wait list?

ARG. This is frustrating.

Unfortunately, my school does!!

My school also requires the pre-reqs to be completed before getting on the waiting list... except for microbiology. It will take me 1-1/2 years to finish my pre-reqs and then the average wait is 1-1/2 years once on the waiting list. Like you... I hate that wait time! I'm so excited to get into nursing school, it will be hard to have to sit back and just wait after finishing the pre-reqs.

On another thread people have given some pretty good ideas of things you can do while waiting... you might want to check it out. Someone mentioned doing your drug flashcards... but I have no idea what to put on those flashcards! Hopefully someone will let me know...

Hang in there... it is hard to wait, but I know it will all be worth it!

One of the programs I'm applying to is just started to require it (I think they begin in a semester or two). Right now they are saying that they just "give preference" to people that have the pre-reqs. completed.

Both colleges I applied to requires the prerequisites beforehand.

That seems to be what it's like in most places, don't get discouraged though just keep focusing at the task at hand the day will come with or without you being in school.

My school you have to finish your pre reqs, then you have to wait a whole semester for them to appear on your transcripts then you can apply, it was a pain but I feel now I am refreshed and dying to get back into the school routine.

I think most CA schools are like that. The schools I applied to had the same requirements that catzy5 mentioned - you had to have a "dead" semester between finishing your prereqs and applying so that by the time you applied, everything would be on your transcripts.

I was lucky to get in my first try so I've only had one "dead" semester. I took Patho during my summer break and had signed up for Pharm during the Fall semester but the class was canceled. Neither class was required but would help me get through nursing school more smoothly. I also started to volunteer at the local hospital to get some exposure to the hospital environment and helping patients. Just some ideas. I know it is really frustrating to wait!

at my school, we have to have the minimum requirements before our application can even be considered looking at. im anxious as well! the school has a year waiting list and the deadline for the jan 09 class is in jan 08. im really pushing myself to get my prereqs done! all i need is ap1 to apply now and im taking that during intersession which starts tomorrow! im getting nervous just thinking about taking that class during the break! but hey on the flip side, i can apply one semester earlier and during the wait i will be taking courses toward a bachelors degree.
