I know people come here to vent and I see SO many people wanting to leave the hospital but I want to know who LIKES working in a hospital. If you do like working in the hospital which unit do you work in and how long have you been there?
I love the hospital I work in and feel very passionately about what we do. We are a major safety net hospital with a very marginalized and indigent population who would have nowhere to turn were we not there. It is a HARD job and not for everyone but for those of us with it in our blood, nothing else makes us happy.
I work in clinical education and am in charge of the orientation program for all clinical and nursing staff. Prior to going into education I worked critical care and PCCU. I left the hospital for 18 months at one point, wanting to see what things looked like from the outpatient perspective. I was bored out of my mind.
I think it depends on the hospital, the culture, and your coworkers. I am working in a Intermediate Care Unit. The hospital is in a nice location, and while I do take care of the critically ill, the patient's aren't as sick as some hospitals. The ratio is 1 nurse to 3 patients. I really like my coworkers and the hospital culture and want to stay at my hospital. I feel like I fit with my unit and the people there. That makes all the difference. This is my 3rd job as a nurse, it took a few tries.
ER.
I like it.

I work in the NICU and love it. I can’t imagine not working there.
