Does anyone know about the VA nurse residency program in Dallas? Is that VA hospital a good place to start./work? I will be graduating in May and worked as a student nurse at a VA in New England. I loved the poulation of vets. I want to get out of New England though and Dallas is a lot warmer than New England! Thanks for any info.

El Centro has clinicals there. I haven't been myself, but from what I've heard... it's not the best place to work in Dallas. I've found Medical City and Baylor to be the most Nurse/ PCA friendly. I mean, EVERYONE at Med City was awesome and nice.

Med City new grads make about $22/hr plus shift diffs if you are nights/weekends.
As for the VA, you get paid closer to $25 bc its a gov't facility and the benefits are great.
I have a friend that just started her residency last month and she LOVES it. I think you have to know what you are getting into though. VA is a different breed and a very unique pt population.
Good luck!!!

very, very unique patient population. i love the patients there, it's really the coworkers and managers that make it an unpleasant place to work.
That is true of other va's as well. Very unfortunate because the vets are so awesome to work with.

Hello, I am an ADN May 2011 graduate and am also applying for the va clc unit, except the one for Dallas and not Bonham. I also applied for med/surg. Do you know how long it takes to get a response? I did apply online, but have not heard anything.-Thanks.

Hey guys! I did my preceptorship at the VA in Houston and I have recently graduated but I wanted to apply to the VA nurse residency in Dallas. Does anyone exactly know how to apply for a nurse residency on the website? Thank you!

It's on the USAgov website, the federal employment website. They announce residency shortly before the application window. Your best bet is to contact the "Nurse Educator" at that location. They can usually give you the necessary information. I also just finished a rotation at Houston VA and I loved. I have asked to stay there for the rest of my program!

Hello, does anyone know what the name of the nurse residency is called for the VA Houston location? I have been looking at USA Jobs every day to see if they posted the application. Thanks!
