I just ran into an article that described tuition savings via CollegeBoards CLEP and AP exams. A graph (shown mid page here http://www.cleptestreview.com/survive-the-increasing-costs-of-college) really brings it home and I'm wondering if anyone has any proven results. If so, please share.

I CLEPd Algebra, Biology, Human Lifespan and Development, and Sociology. Saved me a ton of money and pretty much a whole semester's worth of time!

I wanted to CLEP some of the courses I had already had when I began my degree, and my college only allows you to get a "C" grade via the test, no matter how well you do on it. They told me that even if I got a 100%, I would still get no better grade than a "C" on my transcript. So I didn't do it... I don't know if it applies to your school, but you might want to check that out. :)

I CLEP'd English. I had taken it a long time ago, but the course was not accepted by my BSN program. They did, however, accept CLEP - acutally suggested I do it. When all my prereqs transferred, only the credit transferred anyway, not the grades. The CLEP'd English transferred in as 3 credit hours.
If your school accepts it, it's a great time/money saver, especially if you are somewhat confident in the subject.
That's true, but the actual grades affect your GPA, which can have a negative effect on acceptance to certain schools and programs, depending on one's personal education plan. :)

I've never heard of a school giving a grade like that, everytime I've taken a CLEP exam it just goes in as credit for the course and no grade. I have transferred my English Comp 1 and 2 a few times into degree programs, and I did Human Growth and Development last year. They don't always transfer into every school, so check first, but most times (I've never had it any other way) they just transfer in and you don't get a grade for it. Just buy the book and take the time to study from it, it pays off. For me, it meant three less classes I had to take; I'm all about saving the time and the money!

I took the computer clep, "Information Systems..." and I was so nervous b/c I had no formal training and the hours (or clep) was required for admission. I passed after studying a textbook I picked up at half price books, along with many online resources.
I was under the impression it didn't affect your grade gpa, b/c the scores are not broken down into "A" "B" etc...so you might want to check into it.
I wish I'd have known about the whole clep thing as I was earning my first BA, would've saved me a lot of time and $!
It made no difference in my gpa.

I took the CLEP test for Psychology and Human Growth & Development. I am studying for the Algebra CLEP test now. It shows up as a Pass on my transcript and does not affect my GPA. I just get the college credits added to my transcript as if I took the class. It is great to save the time and money testing out of the class.

Love CLEP and love schools that are generous in the number of CLEP credits they will accept.

I CLEPped computers, humanities and math. (failed math:() I knew I would fail that one but thought it was worth the gamble. Was a great way to save some time and money.

I CLEP'd Sociology and Psych. I just got a book off of EBay and studied for about a week and took the tests. The transfer credit was just a passing standing- no grade. The CLEP test plus the book cost about $100.00. My nursing school charges around $980 dollars per 3 hr class. So it was definetly worth the time and money. Good Luck
