I just ran into an article that described tuition savings via CollegeBoards CLEP and AP exams. A graph (shown mid page here http://www.cleptestreview.com/survive-the-increasing-costs-of-college) really brings it home and I'm wondering if anyone has any proven results. If so, please share.
I'd never heard of CLEP until recently - I went to school the first time in 1997, maybe it didn't exist yet? Or could it be regional? I did start college in 97 as a sophomore, due to all the AP and IB (International Baccaluareate) exams I took in high school. Didn't save me any money, since I had a full tuition scholarship, but it allowed me to complete two majors and a minor in the 4 years the school was willing to let me attend for free. Of course, they didn't offer nursing and I didn't know that was what I wanted at the time, so here I am paying for school myself anyways. Oh well. If you have the opportunity, take it! Why spend the time and money on what are usually intro level classes anyways if you understand the material on your own.
There are 2 different 'versions' of the CLEP English exam and I'm finding that many schools only accept one or the other. You really have to check into that...which tests are accepted. Most schools only accept a handful of exams.
Other than English, I took Marketing and Management and they were very easy! Good luck!

I CLEP'd tons of classes. U.S. History, Western Civ, Sociology, Human Dev, Analyzing and interpreting Lit, History & Social Science. I also took two Dantes exams: Intro to Art and Anthropology. All the tests were either gen ed requirements or pre-reqs for nursing school, and the schools I'm applying to accept CLEP.
