Does anyone have carpeting in their health office? I was told yesterday that I am being moved to another room - one with wall to wall floor carpeting. I cringe thinking of all the times kids try to make it to my office and throw up on the floor and not to mention the dripping blood from bloody noses and injuries. I have checked and it is not law that school health offices have to be tiled, as many old schools have asbestos tiles under the carpeting.
Any carpeted health offices out there? Suggestions? What was used to cover the carpeting to protect against vomit and blood?

i have never seen a carpeted nurse's office for just the reasons you cited. i'm forever calling the custodian to mop up the after effects of the child who didn't quite make the bathroom or garbage or the child who didn't think to grab a kleenex, but rather, just walk in with a hand under their dripping bloody nose. Weren't there tissues in the classroom? Yes, but they sent me here... you can do both, you know... take a tissue AND come to my office... sigh... If they want you to have a carpeted room, they better plan on having a steam cleaner as a permanent fixture and a custodian on call.

I have carpet at one of my schools and it disgusts me! The whole school use to be carpet, but they tiled the halls last summer. When they decide to tile the health room I really hope I don't have to be at the school for a few weeks because I don't want to even THINK I'm breathing in all that grossness. The janitor and I dab up the blood the best we can and she puts absorbent powder on vomit to be vacuumed up. Then, during the summer they use a steam cleaner on all carpeting. We don't put anything on the floor to protect it, so I'm interested to know if there is anything to put on it.

Ewwww! I am so sorry. I can't even imagine having carpet in here! I wish I had some helpful hints but I can't think of anything.

They make some poly-vinyl hall runners. Maybe that would work if you laid it down on the 'main trail' in your office?

Ewe yuck! I like the idea of the poly vinyl floor runners!
Thanks all....I protested and they are going to tile have the room for me. I had looked into runners, but I think they understood where I was coming from and they are going to put linoleum down or tile....half the room. It is a large room so I will keep seating and first aid station close to the tiled floor...and it is close to bathroom. Thanks so much. Funny how we have to beg and almost threaten to administration to do anything. Well, my administration that is. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Score a victory for OP!
so glad for you! Enjoy your new room!
