Hey, guys, with all the hype about going back to all-white, and color-coded units, I was wondering....where I work, we can wear whatever, I have more latitude than hospital staff as an office NP. We routinely wear our team colors (mostly down here it's football, be it college or professional) any old day of the week. Of course, this can get rather lively if your patient or team member is for another team, ESPECIALLY if their team is your team's rival or vice versa. It is, however, a very good conversation starter. Had one today that was wearing a rival T-shirt, and was commenting on my team watch. We were rehashing Saturday's game, and I left to get him a drink, promising "I won't even put strychnine in it!". Anywhere else, I'd probably have been arrested for that.
Just curious as to your workplace's policy on this, and how it affects (or hinders) work and patient care. It may be a Southern thing, cause down here football's more of a religion than a sport, but I wanted to put out a feeler and see how it is othe rplaces.
Thanks!
Well, this Friday will be an oddity for us, we're dressing up for Halloween at the office. No TN for me, I'll be in my ballgown and cape. It's all black, lined in purple. My DH said "If your patients haven't already had a heart attack, you'll give them one in that getup."
More's the pity, we play SC this weekend, but Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I'll wear orange until I have to get dressed for trick-or-treat Saturday.
It's very interesting to note that there seem to be a great number of very stringent workplaces with regard to dress code. There was some debate about the Halloween costumes, but since mine covers me from my neck and drags the ground, there really was not a lot to say. The dress code doesn't ban hoopskirts.
I could wear my team colors if I wanted to, as we don't have a color code in my facility. I'm not sure what the policy is for Halloween dressing-up is though, as I'm off that day. I'm guessing that since it's a psych facility, costumes probably won't fly.
At my volunteer job, we were told we could dress up on Thursday and Friday as long as our costumes were in good taste (e.g., no hookers or Grim Reaper outfits). I plan to go in dressed as a nurse

Ah SC..our old coach...still love Steve...but we will ROCK him...Hope U don't lose another 1... since your coach is ALL talk... LOL
We have lots of staff who wear St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou scrubs. I personally used to always wear my Razorback red on game days when I was at the bedside. Technically we are not supposed to wear anything other than facility or CMN logos, but they let the team scrubs slide, thank goodness. It is a good conversation starter with some of your patients and I do like connecting with people on a personal level.
WE have a certified LSU nut MD, certified FLA GATORS P.A., the registration ladies are Vols Orange from head to toe, along with TN Titan fans, 2-3 nurses and 1 MD are UAB 'Bama Crimson Tide all the way. Now the 5 Georgia Bulldog fans are another story. I think there is some one above the Mason Dixon line for New York........I am STILL pulling for the Saints and LSU of course. Tulane, Green Wave too. and that is just part of day shift. Lockers are decorated, Flags are out, bobble heads are on the desks on game day and yes we are wearing our colors.
Game day usually is not quiet in the ER..... Shhhhh.....

We can wear whatever, and a lot of our folks wear Charger stuff during football season. My blood runs deep orange, however, and no one in Southern California would get it, so I don't bother.
GO VOLS!!!!!!!!
