Do you think patients should have the right to use medical marijuana?

Decriminalize it. Increase tax income from it's sale, increase farming jobs, decrease court cost w/ prosecution, decrease jail time R/T violation of its use & distribution (and perhaps allow for criminals who have commited serious crimes to fulfill their entire sentence vs. early release d/t overcrowding).
I was going to post that entire statement in my own words. No better way to say it! :)
This thread is great and i am very pleased to see 90% of us nurses are agreeing to the rights of medical marijuana. The differences between marijuana and alcohol in a prolonged use is astonishing. Alcohol is by far way worse for you then marijuana EVER could be! I dont get why they appeal marijuana as such a demonic drug.
Overdosing on alcohol =BAD NEWS/POTENTIAL DEATH
Overdosing on marijuana = good sleep and maybe a severe case of the "munchies".
I personally know someone who was addicted to Oxycontins. He tried to get off of them cold turkey, and it was a disaster. He decided to try smoking pot when the withdrawls came, and he was off his addiction in three days, no kidding! They hand out Oxycontins like candy, but medical pot is such a no no. They are so STUPID!!!! Something needs done.
It should have been decriminalized decades ago along with prostitution(another issue). Police need to go after more violent criminals and NO I don't think the use of MJ leads to harder drugs. Also, NO I have never used the stuff or even inhaled it(accidently). I just think it is sad that people have something that will relieve their pain and suffering and there are those who hold onto their beliefs that a crime is being commited.
Here's a nurse who hopes that her kids never find out the extent to which I experimented when younger...I never did coke or heroin, too scared to, but boy did I smoke a lot of weed!
I know several people who smoke, and when I was post-op from abdominal surgery and ended up with an ileus, I would have loved to have been able to take a few hits to take care of the nausea/vomiting and pain. Several days of vomiting after abdominal surgery and not being able to hold down any pain meds made for a very awful time.
I also care for oncology patients on a regular basis. The entire time I was sick post-op, I was thinking of the poor patients I care for who deal with feeling that way constantly. I have had a few patients whose family members quietly, after testing the waters first, tell me that they provided pot for the patient at times and that as the end became nearer, it was the only thing that seemed to help. I think it's a travesty that we have the ability to provide this to them but it's denied for legal reasons.

We already have a form of medical marijuana. Why do they need to smoke it as well and pollute everyone else's air?
