Just curious what the hospital atmosphere is for new nurses. I've read so much on these threads about nurses eating their young, most seem to agree w/ it. What are some of the most important things veteran nurses wish new students knew or did?

I am a new nurse in RI, and i think there is alot of negative feedback on this site sometimes. Im sure some nurses can be quite mean, but theyre not all like that.....So far ive had nothing but good experiences, clinically and as a Nurse.
Thanks Semperfi, I'm just starting my pre-req's and i've read some things that are a bit scary. I'm glad your getting treated well, i hope i do too when i start. Thanks again!

I just started Pawt. Mem. I have only been on the floor 2 days and go back tomorrow. The staff I have worked with have been great. My friend has been there several weeks and says the same. I was worried about the lateral violence I heard about but (fingers crossed) hopefully what Ive experienced will contiue. I think if you get out there and you find your floor uncomfortable or a bad learning environment you should find another floor with a better fit. That's the nice thing about the hospital...there are plenty of options.

Nurses are like anyone else, some good, some bad. We have days that we r "bitchy" like anyone else, but few r really mean. I think that the more you experience and work in other facilities, the more u see, good and bad. Good luck !
