Do you recommend Presbyterian Dallas a good place to work?

From Frisco you can jump on the train at Parker and 75, it dumps you off right in front of Presby Dallas. Not sure what you mean by "Ghetto" patients but you will get a wide variety as you would any hospital in Dallas.

I've worked at presbydallas for the last 2.5 years and I must say it is a pretty nice place to work. The nurse to patient ratios are lower than at other area hospitals (usually no more that 6:1), and they just started a new career advancement ladder for nurses where you can add on an additional 1.50 differential for completing simple tasks such as community service, precepting, education, inservices, etc. I'm a tech right now, but they are paying for my school, and will pay in full the expenses for asn-bsn and bsn-msn. I've got no complaints so far. hope this helps

Thank you for the reply. 6:1 nurse to patient ratios is a lot. Anyway, it sounds like a good place to work. Hopefully, they will nurses well.

I haven't worked at that hospital, but have ridden the train past it. The demographics of the people riding the DART train to and from that area is as diverse as the population of the area. Take a ride on the train and you will see that at Park Lane (l think that's the correct stop at Presby) It's a nice area, surrounded by a lot of low rent apartments. Being on the DART rail system, you will get many pts who have no other means of transportation at Presby. You will also get people from "old money" backgrounds there as it's in an area of "old money" retirees and their children.

Hope I got my point across w/o offending anyone.

Do they get a lot of ghetto patients as it is so close to the downtown.

The "ghetto" patients (a.k.a. lower income patients) are not really the problem at healthcare facilities, in my honest opinion.

In my experience, it has been the wealthier patients and family members that create the most problems for nursing staff. The sense of entitlement is sometimes unbelievable when dealing with these people. Since they have their "WebMD" degrees, some actually believe they know more than their healthcare providers. In addition, some have mentioned nurses in a derogatory manner (blue-collar workers who wear uniforms, punch time clocks, receive hourly pay, etc.). The "ghetto" patients are far less likely to complete their Press Ganey surveys, but you can bet that the more affluent patient populations will mail their surveys promptly.

This is just some food for thought.

what does it matter if the patients are "ghetto" ? A patient is a patient, as nurses we should treat all fairly the same regardless of their status, Rich or Poor.

Presybyterian Dallas is a good hospital and has a good reputation in the community. Not sure what you mean by "ghetto" patients either. Every hospital has patients from all walks of life, all socioeconomic backgrounds, all races, etc... and they all deserve the same standard of care.

I agree with you. All people are created EQUAL. They all deserve our best care. Many times I went extra miles to help those without insurance and low income people. I mentioned this because I worked at a med/surg dept with a lot of drug seeking patients. Ghetto areas tend to have more drug seeking patients. I was swamped all the time. It was normal to miss the lunch time. I just don't want it happen again. I love to serve all people of walks, please don't misunderstand me. Thank you.
