A question for nurses:
Do you get to just do your job, or do you have "personal business plans" or "plans for improvement" where you are expected to come up with ways to improve process and procedures, etc.?
In fact, what *are* your job evaluations like?
Thanks in advance for any insight...
(not that this is a dealbreaker for me, but it seems like something I need to know)

We have to have "goals" every year, but it's kind of a joke.
A goal would be something like "learn telemetry", "become a preceptor", etc.

Thanks. For us, it depends somewhat who your supervisor is. Some take it more seriously than others. I've had some "goals" that felt as if they were akin to "solve world hunger while simultaneously reducing expenses by 75%".
Maddening isn't it?

Rumor had it that one nurse listed as his goal "not to tell everyone what I really think of them". The nurse manager thanked him for his honesty and had a good laugh.

We have portfolios that list our resumes etc.
We have to write goals but I don't know how serious it really is. I usually have a goal to continue to increase my nursing knowledge and skills and to continue to provide excellent patient care.
Kinda lame but all I can think of usually.

I have never been called in for a yearly evaluation. They usually didn't do them where I worked unless there was a history of problems.
