Do people tell you all about their medical problems because you're going to be an RN?

So, of course I am exciting I am finally entering nursing school, but it seems like every time I turn around, people are telling me all about their kidney stones, dangler strings, blood loss, labor & delivery stories, and most recently, their anal bleeding...like really, i am not actually a nurse, and even if I was, I am not YOUR nurse!

Some of these people I barely even know, we are mere acquaintances through our children.

I was just wondering if anyone has this happening to them, and some of the outrageous things people have told you (of course not revealing personal info or names or anything)

This has been happening to me ever since I took the LPN program like 12 years ago, lol. I don't mind it though. I'd probably kinda be weirded out though if my dad started talking about some anal bleeding though, lol.

Yes. And I'm an attorney, and people ask me for free legal advice all the time too, lol. I am not sure why certain professions attract such requests for free advice. I wouldn't ask an interior decorator friend to come over and look at my house and tell me what would look nice in there - what's the difference?

None of my fellow nursing students know I'm a lawyer either. That's 58 less people to tell me about their crappy landlords, roommates, and babydaddies. LOL

OMG. That happens all the time. In fact, just last night a friend called saying "I think I have a really bad ear infection, can you tell me if I have one and what I should do?"

I replied "CALL YOUR DOCTOR."

lol.

Oh yes! Unfortunately, I think it just gets worse as you progress through school and once you become a nurse, watch out! My friends and family ask me the most outrageous stuff! And tell me way too much about their medical problems! I just have a standard reply "I don't know, I'm not a doctor, you should make an appt to see your Dr?" LOL :)

Oh yeah. It's become such a joke in my class our SNA T-shirts last semester said "I'm an NAU nursing student...and yes, that does look infected to me" :chuckle

:chuckle That IS funny! And it's not like I really mind being asked the question, but WHY does it always seem to involve a narly purulent lesion, a rash, or somebody's toe fungus at the family BBQ?? :barf01::lol2:
