Do nursing school students actually rest.....

During the breaks? With Christmas break coming up, what do you do? How do you keep the information fresh in your mind gearing up for the next semester? This kinda goes along with my other post about calculations, but I am scared to totally rest....I am afraid I will enjoy it too much..... I plan on getting a book about how to prepare for the 1st semester or something....I will read, enjoy my family, and get my house in order since I will be too busy for a good 4 months.

I rest every break. After dragging myself through my last week or two of school on coffee, determination, and tears; I collapse as soon as the semester is over. I do plan on working some this break, and I always study ahead a little bit, but mostly I rest.

Thanks guys!!! I needed to hear that. That is true, if you don't rest, you will crash sooner or later.

the big thing that i do is sleep in! :zzzzz and then there's so much cleaning i've got to catch up on plus all the friends i've been cancelling on to catch up with....and squeezed in there somewhere i need to work so i don't starve to death when school picks up again...

happy holidays to everyone!:icon_cheesygrin:

We were told that we must come back prepared and ready to apply any of the skills we learned in our first semester to second semester clinical situations...must review and then date and sign when/what.....that kind of blows some of the time I planned to study ahead for F & E which I understand blows a lot of students away the 2nd semester...oh, and it kind of screws up that 4-letter word -- R E S T, when you factor in Christmas, a week out of town, and some cleaning!! whaaaaaa.....

rest. rest and margaritas. I am dragging clawing slowly inching towards end of semester dragging my butt and skidding on my face. at this point I could care less about next semester. :) the info will still be there, its kinda like if you dont rest, you will crash sooner the next go around. I wanna watch "ellen" in my jammies and not think of anything medical.. 4 weeks of bliss!

Were we separated at birth???:biere:

I already have my Stephen King book waiting on me. Dean Koontz is next followed by as many others as I can possibly cram in there...

DaMomma: I would rest as much as possible during this break. I remember all too well how exhausting nursing school is. I've been nursing for twenty years. But those memories will never go away! I was a young mother of two when I was in nursing school and I do not remember studying much at all during breaks! I think you'll retain more than you are giving yourself credit for. Just do what makes you feel more of a nonnursing student during this break....catch up on "fun" reading, those fictitious novels or whatever it is that you love to read when you're not up to your elbows in textbooks and such. Or do like the one suggested about treating yourself to something extra luxurious like a full body massage...or at least a pedicure or a manicure...something special for the hard work you're putting into being a nursing student....be gentle to yourself...enjoy yourself! Good luck in school....

im going overseas! :)

I don't know about "rest", I've got a house to clean! But, I must confess that I bought an ECG's Made Easy book that will be my reading material for a week at the beach! Also, all the Nursing2006 and Incredibly Easy journals I subscribed to and have not had time to read are calling my name. So I guess I am not totally ignoring school - but then again I am a science nerd!

I have been out of nursing school for about 6 years now, but I remember Christmas break well.

I cleaned my house, slept in, read trashy novels, and enjoyed my kids.

School will be there when you get back - enjoy it while you can. You will remember it all!

Take a break!

I enjoy reading these threads, i am 34yrs old and just decided to go back to school to get into the nursing career. I'm so nervous because I dont know if I will make it. I definitly will give it my all since I truly am so dissatisfied with my job right now (collections). Its so unfullfilling:crying2: , i cant wait to be able to relate to the many threads about nursing classes, tests and all the excitment of getting closer to your dream!:)

I can tell you I sure as hell am going to rest over break, I worked my butt off this semester (as we all did!!!) and deserve the month off!!!! I work at the hospital part time in the NICU and plan to pick up some extra hours over break, so I hope that will be enough to keep everything fresh in my mind! Plus I'm sure I will do the NCLEX-RN review atleast once a week (on CD) so I don't get rusty.

We should all give ourselves a big pat on the back for getting through this semster... WHOO HOO!!!! I've got one class down (Phys.) one final down (written clinical) and 3 finals to go (skill check out clinical, theory, and concepts). :monkeydance:

I bought the same book to read at the beach last summer--I even brought it faithfully with me every day. It ended up being useful to hold the edge of the blanket down and when I finally got down to studying it in the fall, the sand in the book was a good reminder of my trip. But next time I'm bringing a novel. . .:lol2:
