Do nurses get unemployment benefits?

I was in a convo with someone about unemployment benefits and heard that nurses don't get unemployment benefits.. is this true?? Assuming that you got laid off or fired, and not resigned.

I would apply without further delay. It will motivate the employer to give you work or terminate you, allowing you to draw benefits while you look for work.

Thanks. Do you the fact that I have not had my 30 day review will stop me from getting benefits. I'm not greedy person and all I want to do is go back to work and put my education to use. Step down was too stressful for me and HR said they would look for a new position for me but it's tough to get work as a new nurse and this puts a blemish on my work history as I basically worked only 2 months in a year since I graduated. And, my wife is pregnant.

Thanks for the reply. I wander if the fact that I'm still in training disqualifies me from unemployment.

i was working with a probational lisence. it is my 26 years in the same hospital. i was terminated because my probation will not allow me to work more than 84 hrs or float out side. it is also a previlage you earn after 25 years. so i have not floated or worked over time for several years. so i was terminated due to the fact iam 69 years old. i will be getting social security. i also applied for unemployment. i have interview with the unemployment offie next week. any advice from the nurses with experience in this matters.

My hospital (the only real employer in my area) went through a huge restructuring.

They closed my department in the midst of the layoff's/firings, and early-retirement "suggestions."

For those of us laid off (especially those of us at the upper end of the pay scale), they didn't necessarily want to absorb us into other departments, if you catch my drift. Just business, yo.

I applied for unemployment, and retraining benefits. I got both.

I would have preferred to keep working in our hospital (a great place, warts and all), but being laid off has afforded me the opportunity to continue my education, which is something I've wanted to do for years.

It's worked out for both me and my employer.

Arizona has a one week waiting period and pays very low unemployment benefits. Only one state pays less. But when one is laid off every little bit helps!
