I've been calling and emailing the CA BON but it's always soo busy... Maybe someone here can help or is in the same situation...
I passed the NCLEX exam in 2006 but was unable to provide an SSN as I was in the Philippines then. I was able to migrate to California now and was wondering if I fall under "renewal" (but I didn't really get a license before right?) if so, do I need to take the NCLEX?
2. If yes, which must I choose from the options -
"Licensure by examination"? (even if I am not a first time candidate) or "Reapply for Examination"? (even if I passed my previous exam)
- Licensure by Examination If you wish to apply for RN licensure by examination and are a first-time candidate.
- Reapply for Examination If you have previously taken the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) in California and did not pass.
Crossing my fingers that I don't have to re-take...

you dont need to retake the exam kabayan,my cousin who passed her 2006 NCLEX-RN exam just got here in the US a few months ago,and she just provide CABON her SSN # in her new application and pass all the requirements that CABON was asking and got her license soon after.CABON will look into your record again as soon as they receive your application...:)
I found my answer! Sharing it here in case anybody else like me wanted to knoe. I was finally able to get through and just talked to CA BRN, her name is ******
I don't have to retake the exam () but I will need to fill out a new application, provide my SSN, and provide the requirements. I asked about the concurrency issue but then she said that, as I re-submit my requirements it will be up to the evaluator... so I'm still not sure what will happen. Heard of some good and a lot of denials in the other threads. I think it's worth the try. I believe that God is good and sovereign, and by good it may also mean denial - because He knows what is best for us. :loveya: Still, it's okay to ask and pray for a favorable response and just seek His will.
God bless you all my fellow nurses!
I love you proudpinay! Haha :) You're an Thanks for sharing this good news :) And thanks for helping your community of nurses, specially pinay nurses. You just made my day and injected me with hope! Bless you!

To Injecthope: In re-thinking about your case, I don't think you do need to re-take the NCLEX as others have mentioned, your passing of the NCLEX exam remains valid for a certain number of years (I'm not sure what it is, but I think you're okay), you also have a CA license, just not issued due to not having a SSN (but now you do, congrats).
Your license has lapsed, yes, BUT I think rather than go thru the Re-application for Examintion or Licensure by Examination, which I also think are NOT necessary, I believe that you should try the "Reinstatement of a Lapsed License".
I think by showing that you now have a SSN, you just need to look at the requirements to bring your lapsed license from "inactive to active" status by reinstatement. Thus, I think this means the CA BON doesn't have to re-exam your transcripts. Good luck!

hi ma'am, i have the same issue.. i passed the nclex 2008. i came here a few months ago. i just had my ssn last month and did my APPLICATION TO TAKE EXAM and went through the whoke thing just last week. if i may know, how long did the CA BON gave released her license? i am very much afraid of the concurrency issue because my employer is waiting for me to get my license so i can start working for them. thank u so much!
I think it took her a month or two to have her license..just have patience and soon youll receive it....
Hi azirr05! I finally got my licence yesterday! It actually just took two to three weeks from the transcripts were received. Good for you, you have an employer already :)
Thanks proudpinay! I got mine just yesterday, because the school was only able to send it three weeks ago :) It was faster than I thought :) My other nurse friend got his, after about 6 weeks or so.
