Hi everyone!

I'm new to home health and it's been a big change going from hourly to salary. My question for those of you who are not paid hourly, do you get paid for your staff meetings and/or case conferences? At my agency we don't get paid for either of these. Our meetings have been lengthy lately, and have lasted for 1.5 hours. Thanks in advance!

we are paid 1 visit for mandatory meetings

Hi everyone!

I'm new to home health and it's been a big change going from hourly to salary. My question for those of you who are not paid hourly, do you get paid for your staff meetings and/or case conferences? At my agency we don't get paid for either of these. Our meetings have been lengthy lately, and have lasted for 1.5 hours. Thanks in advance!

You say you are salaried, are you paid 8 hours a day? If so, you are being compensated for the meetings in that salary.

We are paid per visit and we are paid 2 hours for case conference and the hourly rate is a little more than I made hourly as an RN 24 years ago. That 2 hours is paid, even if the meeting exceeds that time.

We are only paid for home visits, travel / driving time, mileage is forty cents a mile and on call is $ 1.25 an hour.The weekly mandatory staff meetings are not compensated. Standard is 27.5 visits per week. I routinely see a weight of 30 to 35 and am up late charting each night. I wear out a set of ties every year. I am tired, but I love my patients. I do wish I had a life outside of HH.

At one time, one of my agency employers was paying a minimal amount for mandatory inservices, but that soon fell by the wayside and never came back when people complained. We also used to get snacks provided by the office which was some form of compensation in itself.

As Home Health Nurses are considered"Consultants" as if we were architects or city planners, and therefore not illegible for over time or compensation for true hours worked, my question is: Is there anything we can do to get paid for hours worked. It is conceivable that during the on call period, nurses have literally worked around the clock and had to use vacation time when they were too exhausted to go on. Such policies need revision, but I fear we have no none to champion our cause.

well i've been working HH for 3 yrs and never have gotten paid over time or time we spent in our mandatory or case conference meetings. lol I hear that alot of other HH get paid or they are brought lunch for the time spent for weekly meetings. When I started working for the same HH I still work now lol we use to get xmas bonuses, our patients use to get turkeys, and blankets every yr since ive been there until this year. About 120-140 pts didnt not receive any turkeys this yr and i was more embarrassed for them, these HH get thousands of dollars for these pt's and they cant even afford to give all the patients a 15-20 dollar turkey.....lol....OMG I pray every night that Im able to get through every day and hope that one day I will hit the damn lotto..lol..ONE DAY ppl..lol..well this week might be my last week, along with 9 other nurses, why, I'll tell u why..because our owners want us to pay for our own gas in their company vehicles why i drive 12-13 hours a day seeing their pt's...lol..what a load of crap..well good luck to them cuz in the end i think they will be charged with neglect and abondoment of a pt cuz they will certainly be under staffed while we'll be forced to look for other employment right before xmas too, man this really bites the big one. Thank God I only have one kid or else this would really be bad. Sorry to ramble on and on but I dont think any nurse has gotten paid over time, travel time, case conference time either..so if any of u have pls guide me to ur employer..lol thnx sincerely/ mental anguished...lol

No, not at either of the two agencies I worked for. It wasn't much of an issue though because apparently scheduling them is a real nightmare for the Case Manager r/t people working different shifts, not wanting to make a long drive for a 1 or 2 hour event, etc etc etc. Therefore we didn't have anywhere near enough case conferences in most cases.

I recall one meeting that lasted three hours because people were allowed to meander off-topic endlessly. The topic itself was pretty straight forward, too -- that was sheer torture.

~~~edit to add -- just noticed this thread is from April. Maybe the OP ended up getting paid for conferences! Hope so!
Wow, I can't believe it's been 7 months since I posted that. Several nurses voiced their concern regarding the lengthy meetings and case conference during that time. Management has cut back on the length of time of the meetings. A big problem was that they allowed too much discussion time and allowed people to get off topic, so now they stick to the agenda and try to limit the meetings to one hour.
We don't get paid for meetings or mileage. We just get paid for the visit.
