Do you feel valued in your current nursing position?

Valued by the nurses I work with 100 %, Patients 75%, administration, 0% As a nurse with 27 years experiance and being at the top of my pay scale I have to be really careful because they would love to eliminate me and hire a cheaper new nurse. Doesn't pay anymore to be loyal to your place of employment as they are not loyal to you anymore. But since I love nursing and love my patients its a small price to pay.

What a difference a year makes.

I was just reading through this thread and happened upon my post from September 2005, and I'm happy to say that my answer then no longer holds true. The answer today is yes, YES, YES!!! I feel valued in my current position because my boss trusts me to do my job and encourages me to use my abilities. I have the autonomy to be as creative and innovative as I want to be, the trust of the staff and the residents, and the respect of people in the community who bring their family members to my facility because of our reputation for excellence.

Yes, I'm very fortunate, but I haven't always been, so I'm counting my blessings. :specs:

Wonderful, Marla! What a fitting post for this Thanksgiving day. I also can state that I feel very valued at my present place of employment. This was not always the case; four months ago I left my position of 4 years, due to severe burnout. So, yes, I am also counting my blessings :)

No. I worked the same hospital for 11 years and as nurses we are still treated like crap. I left for a better opportunity where I do feel respected in my profession and feel like I have a voice.

No, no, no, no, I don't, I have been at my current job a little over 2 years and the first thing my nurse manager says when he calls for a meeting is "the floor is heavy, if you can't take it you are free to quit, no one is forced to stay". There was never a time when he says "thanks for your hard work" I wonder if he took management lessons.My fellow nurses value me as a nurse.

Hey Y'all
The bad news: It might be nice that you're appreciated by your peers but in the big picture, it doesn't amount to a pitcher of spit. The place that appreciation COUNTS is in administration and their agenda and values are NOT the same as mine.
I want my Pts to have extradinary levels of care--skin flawless, drsgs and lines spotless and tight. I want to be in the room with my pts where all the monitors and pumps that are my tools are located.
The Admin wants the chart and paper to be flawless--plan of care updated qshift, nurse's notes in just a perfect format, useless forms that document nonsense filled in. The want me at the nurses station where I can answer the phone before the 4th ring.

I so agree with Papaw- too often, administration -including nursing leaders-make decisions that do not include nurses, refers to nurses as "they" as if they themselves are no longer nurses- and basically sell out.

To be appreciated to me means my opinion is sought and excellent pt care is the the driving force.

Sort of do,(feel valued) but I think I'm too burnt out to care. Might switch units, see if it helps.

i feel very little appreciation from any of the management, coporation, and most of my co-workers....but i was told by a resident last night that i was a god sent...that was special...so that's all that matters.
