Do crnas deserve that much salary?

Don't take me wrong, in Houston, Texas CRNAs stock their rooms, prepare the meds, MDAs see the patients sometimes. CRNAs are told by MDAs that they don't have to see the patient, so you bring the patient to their room. CRNAs hand the drugs to MDAs, they push the drugs, MDAs let them intubate and then leave. CRNAs manage take vitals do the paperwork MDAs come for emergencies, if there is something wrong MDAs take over. Any nurse can do what CRNAs do with the exception of intubation that can be learned by a nurse. My questions do CRNAs have to go to school for 3 years and get a masters degree for this? Do they deserve 220k salary when they don't do anything autonomously? I see a flawed system any thoughts??!!!!

Oh brother GHA group, google it, they have AAs, the mdas come in to push the drugs, you just witness the anesthesia unfolding Infront of you, you as a CRNA insignificant in Houston, TX and help mdas lives get better. Lol. CRNA makes about 220k just to assist n do the paper work, mda makes about 400k, now I know why I pay 700 dollars health insurance just myself. Flawed system.

They have AAs? Associate degree? If this is what you're saying, you're wrong. It's a Master's level. And what is your level of training/licensing? You've been an AN member since '08, but there's nothing on your profile. Are you a troll or what? Are you an ESL?

AA= anesthesiologist assistant. They practice anesthesia under MDA direction.

Spoken like a true troll, probably from SDN. "It takes the whole team to get a job done" may very well be true. But....by your very own admission, that whole team does not need and MDA, ever. And of course, facts supports this.

After having worked as an ICU nurse I thought I knew it all but until I went to anesthesia school and learned how drugs work at the cellular level, I have come to realize that I didn't know as much as I thought I knew. Also, going from the RN role to the CRNA role you are taught to practice as a provider and make decisions on your own, after all, some states allow CRNAs to work independently without an anesthesiologist.

That statement will change if you go to med school and decide to become an anesthesiologist...

No. Actually, it won't. We learn the same facts. We use the same textbooks. We do the same job. We have the same results. Unless the subject is about advanced appreciation of break room Java, and stock portfolio performance, the two educations provide the same level of knowledge and understanding.

CRNA's basically practice anesthesia with the supervision of MDA. That's what a CRNA friend told me. CRNA's are trained to do the trouble shooting that MDA's do. They're more on the critical thinking aspect.

No CRNA needs to work under the supervision of an MDA with the exception of NJ, and even then "supervision" is often nothing more than signing electronic form or a piece of paper.

About CRNAs

CRNAs can and do work independently all over the US and US territories sometimes in mixed provider groups, CRNA only groups or even in solo practice. CRNA care whether working with MDAs or not has the same outcomes as indpendent MDA care.
