DNP Touro Nevada

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello all. I saw that Touro Nevada DNP program is 1 year 33 units. I really like the fact that it is accelerated. Does anybody have any experience with Touro's DNP online program?

How does the practicum/clinical portion of the program work? On their website it states the DNP mentor need not be in close proximity geographically. Does the intensive writing culminate in the final project? Thank you!

It is similar to most DNP programs project/capstones-you will work closely with an academic and practice mentor to develop a project that "translates research/evidence in to practice"-in an area of your interest that meets the program goals. The project will follow the "DNP Essentials" guidelines (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/dnp/Essentials.pdf) and your clinical hours will be derived from your project development and implementation (as approved by your academic mentor). I know a young lady who is in the program now, who was told that her practice mentor needed to be licensed in the state the student lived in and where the student would be doing her project. That wasn't the case when I was there, but the program seems to be changing some. You will support your final project through a written work and verbal "defense" to peers/faculty. As everyone else said, the pace could be difficult at times.

I am now down to 3 weeks left in the program and yes for our cohort your Mentor needed to be licensed in the state and in the area that I live in.

The other thing to know about Touro is that they follow the orthodox Jewish calendar. So the terms start at weird times (mine were March, July, and October) and you do not get two weeks off for Christmas. They observe Jewish holidays strictly- as in faculty cannot access internet during the Holy Days. It's all spelled out in advance, just something to be aware of.

I finally finished! WooHoo!!!

WGU MSN-Ed. grad here also! Just remember with this program it's one and done with your assignments-no revising and resubmitting as was. In the DNP Project courses you have the opportunity to resubmit after your Mentor gives their suggestions. You will be graded on each submission though, I turned in the incorrect version of one of Project papers and received an F. My Mentor knew it was the wrong version of the submission but she had to grade me based on the quality of the work turned in...Ouch!

Congrats from a fellow TUN graduate...

The program actually looked pretty decent, but it's available to Pennsylvania residents so no Touro for me!

Can anyone in the DNP program shed light on the biostatistics course? Is it very difficult?

My colleague and I are interested in the program; we both work full-time and are hoping to gain a realistic view about what to expect.

How many hours per week are you all spending on this program?

I graduated in 2016. The pace is BRUTAL. Three, 16 weeks terms with only a week off between.

My cohort of 16 graduated 14.

Please please mentor me. I am starting the program soon and there is so much unknowns. Mostly worried about the practicum since I know I can handle the school work. Not sure where to get a mentor.

WGU-Leadership grad here! Wohooo ?. I'm interested in enrolling in Touro University's DNP program this year, hopefully by Fall 2020. I would like to know how their program compares to 's program in terms of their course delivery models i.e. TaskStream assignments/rubric requirements. Also, is there a scheduled due date for each coursework/assignment or can one study at their own pace and complete coursework by the end of the semester? Lastly, is there a blackboard participation requirement for this program? I'm considering the accelerated track and I just need to get a better sense of the program intensity. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Nursey10,

I have no idea how it compares to , but I can tell you my experience so far (I've just started the program):

This info is for 2 classes right now (you actually do 3 classes per term, but two of the classes are 1/2 term in length and sequential, so you're actually only doing two at once in this term):

1. Strict deadlines for assignments, if late points off but will not be accepted at all if 3 or more days late.

2. You must login on 3 different days per week to post to discussions, & the 1st post has to be within the first few days of the week. (Per class)

3. The discussion postings are more like full-on assignments with APA style and required references and then feedback from fellow students. It's not actually "discussing" the topics. For example, this week there are 4 detailed questions that must be answered and in addition to the actual answers you also have to post how you anticipate (the answers you wrote) will impact you as a DNP, so it's a few pages worth of work as the questions are in depth, not simple one sentence answers. The rubric grades based on relevance and significance of contributions, so just posting a reply that is basic will bring your score down.

4. In addition to the discussion described above there is a quiz and a written assignment in one class plus another written assignment in the other class.

5. The readings (combined for both classes) for this week were 8 different chapters from 3 books and took me a few hours to read.

6. In addition, there are video lectures to watch as well. The instructor states that the quiz questions are from "the website" not the books - (I figure that means the videos - I haven't done the quiz yet). The discussion assignment was based off the readings.

7. We've been told to start working on the week 3 stuff as well, as we might not meet the deadlines for what is due that week if we don't. We also are supposed to be actively working on arranging our sites and securing a DNP in our state of licensure as our project mentor.

FYI - this is week ONE of the program. ?
