well, editing this because, I think this nurse is just stressed.

It is true that you will not get along with everybody! I hope you find a way to not let this nurse get to you. Some people are just toxic. They find a way to ruin what would otherwise be a great day. Some are friends with the "lazy" cna's and do not like the good ones that show up their friends. Some are too insecure with their abilities and do not like a cna telling them "something they already know." In the end, it is about the patients and not that nurse. Good luck with this issue.

Sincerely,

Jay

I'm sorry that you are having a hard time at work. Like you said, you are not everybody's cup of tea, but that doesn't give anyone the right to disrespect you. My advice is to talk to her privately about her behavior and how she makes you feel, and if that doesn't work, you might have to report her to her supervisor.

I'm a nursing student and I have seen alot of nurses in the hospital where I'm doing my clinicals, and even other students acting like they are superior to the rest of mankind just because they are nurses.

Keep your chin up. No one can make you feel bad about your self without your permission, try not to let her attitude affect how you feel about your self.

You said that you admire her. Well if she is mean to you then she doesn't deserve your admiration. In my opinion, treating people with respect and dignity is worth more than any degree or money.

I've had similar toxic situations but in reverse! I'm a nurse, the toxicity was oozing forth from a cna or two of mine at a particular LTC facility. They got away with anything due to the fact that the main troublemaker was selling weed to the ADON for her hubby! She made sure he never got in trouble for the lax way he performed at work and the way he was always trying to get me in trouble! Geez! He eventually was fired from that job after I left there...and then, proceeded to show up at the next LTC facility where I worked! I thought, no .... dear God, not again! He is bad news and set me up there for failure, also. I should've listened to my instincts as a person and as a nurse and run for the hills the very day I saw him enter the building at the second job we worked together! Never again! If I EVER see him in another facility, I'll definitely exit as quietly and gracefully as possible. Not the best way to handle toxic people, but the only way with him. He was a self-proclaimed "gangsta!" Can you imagine being taken care of by someone like that? Still gets me hot under the collar that he managed to pull the wool over management's eyes long enough to work anywhere. Sorry for the rant. It just reminded me of a bad situation I was once in. As previous posts suggest, you will always have toxic people to work with, unfortunately. I tried everything to deal with mine. Sometimes you do need to exit the situation, depending on the details...if management doesn't see what you're experiencing, maybe this is an option for you. I wouldn't hesitate for a second on seeking a different preceptor. Concentrate on the task most important: getting a proper orientation/learning experience for YOU, you are what is important here, not the preceptor's ego.

You are right, it doesn't make sense to admire someone who looks down on others. That would go counter to my values.

What I meant by admire was, basically I always like people unless they give me really good reason not to. I assume she is a competent nurse, with high standards of care, and that goes a long way with me. I admire someone who wants the best for the patient.

Funny though, she seems to be implying in many ways that I am not caring for my patients. I guess that just basically hurts my feelings.

Thank you for encouraging me.

Wow, this sure makes my problem seem alot smaller. What a mess!

God bless you.

I am an LPN and work in a LTC facility and I have so much respect and admiration for the work my CNA's do. Some personalities do not mix, but in all fairness this nurse should respect you and be a professional. If you are doing your job her personal opinion of you should never get in the way. Good luck and THANKS TO ALL OF YOU CNA'S FOR THE LOVING CARE AND COMPASSION YOU SHOW EVERYDAY!!!! YOU ARE THE BACKBONE OF ALL LTC!!!!

Specializes in LTC, cardiac, ortho rehab.

im an lvn and ive seen some of my CNA's "abused" by another nurse. i love my cna's because they are my eyes and ears, but when another nurse "abuses" them then i will step in and confront that nurse and tell them off.

my suggestion is to bring that nurse into a room and try to talk about it, if that is un successful, bring it up to management.

eventually, that nurse got spoken to by management(she spent her time abusing CNA's instead of carrying out orders, some orders were ordered at 7 am and was not carried out until i came on at 3 pm)
