  1. I didn't call the OP a racist. I said they should learn a little bit about the bill before they comment on it. I don't understand why people can't have disagreements without bringing race into the discussion. Personally, I dont have enough information about the bill to make a judgement. I think that's the Administration's fault, they are not doing enough to educate the public about it. Instead, they are allowing republicans to use the bill to scare people just like they did after 911. I'm guessing you are not a supporter of the bill, what exactly do you not like about it?
  2. OP, please educate yourself on what the healthcare bill really is before you start making statements like that. Your employer will be fined if they take away your health insurance! A lot of people are getting their panties tied in a knot about this bill without even knowing what the bill is about.
  3. A confused and hostile senior has the right to own a gun? Really... There is something really wrong the law makers in this country!
  4. there are no short cuts to becoming a registered nurse. it is a very lengthy and frustrating experience, nursing school is at times humiliating and one of the hardest things you will ever do in your live. the nursing profession is also one of the most frustrating, hardest and humbling professions ever. the media keeps telling everyone and their mother to go to nursing school because it is a path to riches. yes, you can make a good living as a nurse, but the amount of crap (literally and fugitively) that you have to put up with is not worth the pay that you will get as a nurse, that's why a lot of nurses quit after a few years or complain about their job all the time. nursing can also be a very rewarding way to make a living, there is nothing more satisfying to me than seeing a pressure ulcer heal (i have a thing about wound care). if you have more than a financial motive for wanting to get into nursing, than i definitely encourage you to go for it. it will be a very challenging, humiliating and a long process, but the smiles of your future patients will make it all worth it. good luck.
  5. One word "Swine Flu". Swine flu originated from unhygienic pig farm practices in Mexico, but guess what, it was brought back to the US by people (not poor people) vacationing in Mexico. I know for a fact that that's how it spread to New York City. A bunch of students from my sister's private high school travelled to Mexico and broght back swan flu and they spread it to other schools attended by their siblings. The US is not protected from the spread of infections disease from other countries just because we have better hygiene practices. I agree with you about the money not getting to the people who need it because of wide spread corruption in third world countries. I think it's a shame and I wish there was a way to stop corruption in theses countries.
  6. The government can provide each person with health insurance and it will mean nothing if any of these infectious dieases in the third world becomes a public health problem in the US. I repeat it is in our own best interest to help fight infectious disease in Africa.
  7. There are many African people who travel all over the world including the United States every year, so if we don't fight infectious diseases in Africa, they will eventually spread to America. Think of it as preventative care for you and your family.
  8. I'm a registered nurse with a BSN and when I first started working I made so many mistakes with paperwork that my preceptor hinted that I was probably the dumbest nurse she ever worked with. I was a very good student ( mostly A's and B+'s), but I was horrible at documentation in school and as a new nurse. ( I actually documented in the wrong patient's chart a couple of times.) Most of my co-workers used to gossip about me. I actually heard my manager talking about a mistake that I had made behind my back, she didn't know I was still on the floor. I almost got fired many times because of my documentation. I felt stupid and wanted to quit but I held my head high and worked harder at improving my clinical and documentation skills. A few months after I started working everything came together and I haven't made a mistake on documentation ever since. English is my second language so I think that probably had something to do with all my paperwork mistake. My point is like everything else in nursing you get better with practice. PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP, most nurses forget that we all made stupid mistakes as students and new nurses, so don't let their gossiping bother you too much. I promise you it will get better and eventually you will laugh about all your silly mistakes.
  9. Went to the interview with the recruiter, she seemed to like me and sent me to interview with a manager. She also seemed to like me, but I didn't get the job. I'm still confused about what happened.
  10. I think it is perfectly normal so be scared and nervous when performing procedures you are not familiar with. I graduated last December and I'm nervous about acting like an idiot when I start working, but I went on an interview last week and the manager said she would take a scared new graduate any day over a cocky no it all. She said new grads are more likely to be careful if they are scared. Her advice was just keep practicing procedures until they they second nature to you and eventually the nerves will go away.
  11. hello nurses, i went on an interview on thursday, sent a thank you note to the nurse manager and the recruiter the same day. i haven't heard anything back from both of them and now i'm starting to worry. my question is how long should i wait before i call the recruiter or email the nurse manager ( i only have her email address) and what do i say without coming off as desperate or pusher.
  12. Thanks ladies, I will keep you posted!
  13. Hey Chris, I graduated this past december and I applied online.
  14. Thank you Bklyn RN. If you don't mind me asking, were you interviewed just once and how long did you have to wait to find out that you were hired?
  15. Hi Everyone, I have an interview with NYP for a new grad position next week and I'm very nervous. I would really appreciate it if someone can give a general idea about their interview process? Where did the interview take please and how many people interviewed you? How long was the interview? What type of questions were you asked? What unit did you interview for and did you get the job? Thanks!
