Just curious if anyone who has applied to the Direct Entry MSN programs at UMASS Worcester, MGH, or Northeastern for Fall 2010 has been contacted about interviews or received word either way yet? I know the deadlines aren't until this week but just wondering if anyone sent their applications in early has heard anything. Thanks!
Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted! Very exciting! Is everyone planning to attend Northeastern?? I love the program and am definitely planning on sending in my deposit this week. My only concern is about the lack of jobs for new RN's in Boston. It seems that people are having a really, really hard time getting a job especially without any experience. I'm worried about not being able to find a job for the co-op portion of the program. Is anyone else concerned about this? Anyone's input on this issue would be great because it's really starting to freak me out a little
Hi PsychRN - I did find this article this morning. Please note it is from a year ago (Jan 2009), but due to the slow recovery of the economy it may still be relevant for a bit.

It's important to remember that health care always lags behind the recovery of other industries. I think some hospitals are starting to hire again, or only have a soft freeze instead of a solid hiring freeze. I hope that a lot will change over the next 2 years.
They just called me last week to let me know I was accepted, Just sent in my deposit today! Are you going there too?

I was just accepted to Umass Med and saw your were going. Im from VA and don't know very much about the area. Just wanted to know if you wanted to chat about the program. Thanks!
Hi Cassie - I'm 99% sure I'm going to UMass Med also! Which track did you pick? I'm in the acute care track.
Right now I live in Cambridge - which is about an hour away from Worcester. I think I'm planning to move about 10-15 minutes from campus.. maybe in Westborough or Northborough.. but I grew up in Framingham (30 minutes) away and know a bit about the area if you have any questions. One thing to note is that there is public transit into Boston via the commuter rail. The area between Worcester and Boston is more suburban, but there are some nice areas to live in.

Congrats everyone on your acceptances! PsychRN - the letter just says to reply with your acceptance and deposit by the 19th of March, and I’m assuming they’ll send more information once you formally accept. I am friends with one of the students who started this program last year and from what she could remember the orientation was sometime in August, which feels so far away from now! The specialty I applied for was for Family, I’m assuming you’re sticking with psych? I look forward to meeting everyone :)
