Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!
Good Luck!
hey guys! been lurking for a while... decided to finally set up a profile to introduce myself ? I applied for the MDE/DNP (PNP Track) Program. Good luck to everyone who applied! I'm also in the process of finishing Stats (and Microbiology). Stats will be done by February and Micro by December.
Did anyone fill out the FAFSA yet? All the other schools I’m interested in are ABSN programs, so I selected 2nd bachelor degree and 5th year undergraduate. Is it possible to fill out a separate FAFSA and select graduate? What is everyone else doing? Thanks!
Hi @BSSB - that's a really good question. I've taken out a small student loan while finishing my pre-requisites at community college and it feels like I've filled out the FAFSA a zillion times for *that*. Had never even occurred to me that Columbia's program would be considered a 'graduate' program unlike the other ABSN programs I'm applying to and may work differently re: financial aid. If you find out anything about this, please share!
Out of curiosity, are any other folks second-career (aka "older") students? I was reading through an older Columbia post and am curious how this affects 1) my chances of being accepted and 2) whether I still might be a candidate for scholarships. I have two kids with special needs, which is kind of a unique situation, but there's not exactly a blank to fill that in on the FAFSA.

As far as getting into Columbia they love second career students as this is who this program is geared to. I am scared because I’m straight out of undergrad but I am older and it took a lot of struggle for me to graduate.
mad for FAFSA, a lot of factors get you ‘less money” or less aid. Being married, having no dependents, being older and having a bachelors already are all things that will get you less aid. But there you still get aid and there are scholarships and grants. Try to apply to TAP. Also put second degree student 5th year or something like that on the FAFSA form. Don’t worry guys we got this! Let’s stay positive and have each other’s back!!!! ?
