I know that it may sound odd, but I am estatic that we did not receive the coveted Magnet Status. There was so much intimidation, lies, cover ups, forging of records and ludicrus behaviors that were exploitative at best. Between some nurses blatently breaking HIPPA and a CNA caught on camera beating up a patient holding her baby (and was only suspended for 30 days)...I am happy to announce that the powers that be prevailed and did not give this joke of a hospital Magnet. I now have more faith in mankind for a moment...:yeah::lol2: (it is THAT obvious that I am glad not to have to be forced to say that this place is a Magnet home??)

I think I've said it before, you can't fake Magnet. You've either got it or you don't.

Too bad they had to spend a ton of money to find out that they didn't get it.

*** I think it's WAY over rated anyway. I work at a Magnet hospital and they do not treat their nurses well at all. Nothing like when I worked for the other (non-Magnet) trauma center. Our unit is staffed over 50% travelers. We all get told what the proper responses to JACO's questions that are not really accurate.
If I ever look for another job a hospital's Magnet status will not be a consideration.

I work in a magnet hospital and it really is a great place to work. There is a sense of pride to be an employee there. The hospital really takes care of the nurses as well. We get full time status for working 36 hours/week for health care benefits, best wages in town, tons of tuition reimbursement, promotion of lateral shifts or upward movement, a concierge service for free, and on-site day care. Just to mention a few.

I worked for 2 years in a Magnet facility, and have to say that they deserved it. The entire hospital operation was nurse-driven, management really supported the nurses, and there were several clinical educational opportunities and a nursing advancement ladder program.....
Magnet Status being attached to the hospital's name will not make me run to apply. After all that I have seen and experienced, I know that my place does not deserve it.
I am glad to hear that there are some nurses that posted on this thread have positive outcomes to their Magnet achievement. It is the PEOPLE behind Magnet that make it work (you guys are so, very fortunate), not the name alone...like the fools at my place of work seemed to think.

There would be WAY too many bleeps, unnatural sounds and artwork to be posted here amongest respectable people...:lol2:

I'm not impressed by the Magnet status. Every magnet hospital I've worked at did not have a great work environment. And there was far more paperwork. I'd rather work at a non-Magnet hospital that treats their nurses well than a Magnet hospital that treats their nurses poorly.

I work for Baptist Hospital in Miami and I think our nurses have earned our magnet Status and even though I think some of the stuff we have to know to be a magnet hospital is bull crap I still feel like our nurses are great and caring and deserve something that says we go the extra mile, because we do.
*** Sounds like you work at a great hospital. My hospital is a Magnet hospital and has none of the things you mention. It would seem to me that a good place to work is a good place to work regardless of Magnet designation.
