Did you lose weight?

Hi, I'm wondering if any nurses here found that they noticed any weight changes after they started working? Lose some due to moving around a lot, gained any for whatever reason (stress maybe?), or simply just stayed the same?

Gained during my last semester because of stress. That started the yo-yo game.....we grab bites every chance we get because we often don't get the half hour to sit down and eat a meal, so we end up eating more than we would at a meal. Weight goes up, work on getting it down, goes back up again, etc.

That's what happened with me as well. It was like a rollor coaster. My weight keeps going up and down.

Me too...up and down. I do know for a fact that my diet is less than desired. I have stomach probelms big time if I eat at work...all that running around...gives me horrible stomach pains and bloating! So I don't eat at work..instead I have to watch myself like a hawk so that I don't gorge myself once I get home!!!!!!!!

I started working as a nurse six months ago. I have gained weight due to eating fast food on the run between my two jobs. Also, I have hypothyroidism due to a radioiodine treatment one year ago, which causes my metabolism to be slower than the norm.

I'm getting ready to start nursing school on August 21st. I'm hoping to not go up and down with my weight. One student said that her and a bunch of people eat salads in class all the time. So I thought about doing that so I don't overeat. What do you think?

I gained a bunch of weight in my first year of nursing school. I was so busy and stressed out, I'd just eat what was quickest (usually fast food from on-campus). I also have hypothyroidism, so I'm sure that played a factor. As soon as summer break rolled around, I lost all the weight again (just from not eating junky campus food).

I started my first nursing job 6 months ago on a specialty med/surg floor and I've lost 16 lbs so far. Chalk it up to total stress, running around crazy and no breaks on the job. Very effective - yet unhealthy - weight loss program.

I gained 15 lbs in nursing school...I think it was extreme stress, lack of sleep and too much sitting due to studying. Once I graduated and started working as an RN, that 15lbs came off in about 6 months. The interesting thing about that tho' was that I started out on night shift and everyone said they had gained weight on nights. I felt too sick working nights. I couldn't eat at those odd hours and I rarely got more than 4 quality hours of sleep. Never did adjust to nights!

I gained when I started my current job......very different and quite stressful compared to my previous job. I ended up gaining a grand total of 48 pounds.....although I can only claim about 20 pounds due to stress. The rest was sheer laziness. Now I'm committed to losing it!! lol I've lost 21 pounds so far. :)

I gained a lot of weight in nursing school because of the stress and a lot of studying. When I am studying so intensly a eat many many snacks and finger foods.

I gained some at the end of nursing school and hoped to lose it at work. I started in June and lost 7 pounds so far....but they KEEP FEEDING US! There is forever a free lunch for one reason or another, one time we got strawberry shortcake at report, today we had a catered lunch for recognition of patient satisfaction scores and then cake from our lactation consultants to celebrate Lactation week (I think thats what they call it) it just goes on and on! :)
