Did not get into MDCC for nursing

Published

What should i do in the mean time?? I have a 3.6gpa and did not get in to Miami Dade. This is the first time I have applied.

Should i go for my LPN? I don't want to waste my time until the next registration?? Any input would be great. I am looking at other schools but need some guidance.

Hi Surfsidebabe, did you get a reason for not getting admitted? The small ASN school I teach at has a waiting list- are you eligible for a waiting list? I would first find out if you didn't meet their admissions criteria and why. (Did you submit a writing sample? References? etc.)

Also, you might want to consider applying to several schools, unfortunately the demand exceeds the supply of faculty.

RE: LPN- I'm in Boston, and the trend here is to require our LPN's to get their RN degree by a certain time or risk losing their jobs. If that's the only way for you to get your RN- it might be a way to your goal, but it's a longer journey.

Good luck- your GPA certainly is decent, and I hope you presevere!

Hey you! I too live in Miami and realize how difficult it is to get into MDCC! I decided to first earn my LPN at Robert Morgan and then go into the transition program at MDCC (MDC) for which there is NO waiting list! If you become a LPN, have your pre-reque's finished, you will get into MDC right away. That is MUCH better than waiting around a year or two to just get into the RN program. LPN program - 14 months plus another 14 in the LPN-RN transition and you are an RN. Meanwhile, you are working, training and becomining a confident, experienced nurse. BTW, going LPN to RN is NOT longer if you cannot GET into a RN program...why don't people get that???

Good luck and I HIGHLY recommend Robert Morgan...only 14 days left for me!!!! WHOOPEEEE!

Hey surf,

I'm really surprised you didn't get in, since MDC goes by GPA, and yours is fairly high. Did you have all of your prerequisites finished for the program? Did you do well in the science classes? I think going for your LPN at Miami Dade or any other school is a good idea, then you can do the LPN to RN.

I would apply to multiple schools for placement on their waiting lists.

Followup to the admissions committee with a letter emphasizing your ability to start in the fall as a replacement for a cancellation/no show student.

Wishing you the best.
