Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.
Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?
You're right, that seems a little silly. Since you're in England, might you get the email before the snail mail? Also, I'm curious how this plays out if you're not admitted. So you get a letter rejecting you from the program. You're disappointed, but you come to terms...then a few days later, you get an email that tells you to check a website that says, "yeah, you're still rejected." Seems kind of cruel!
lol!!
Yeah i guess that seems quite harsh! Well Shelli said she'd be sending notifications out through mail to everyone, so i'm assuming she meant that includes me as well as she didn't state otherwise.
It's been quite difficult for me because within the UK there aren't any colleges that will let you take under graduate classes without taking the entire undergraduate degree.
Since the UK works on a completly different system to the US, it's been hard to explain to universities in the states that I haven't done any seperate pre reqs because I have taken these classes within my undergraduate degree.
So I then have had universities email me saying my application is complete and then rejecting me because i havent taken any pre reqs (which they knew about before they told me my application was complete), so applying to them was a waste of my time in imo.
Hi puravida09! Actually I'm taking it at Mesa College, but close :) If I don't get accepted to UCLA, the only good thing will be that I can drop Ochem, because it's not a requirement for USD. Although I'm wondering maybe I should just finish the course just in case? Are you in that same boat by chance?
Yes, San Diego is a great place and part of me wants to just stay and go to USD, but my main reason for wanting to go to UCLA is so I can live at home and save money. I haven't even visited the SON to get a feel for it. I know the campus is beautiful, but it's also in LA. I'm not a huge fan 'cause I grew up there and know traffic will not be fun.
I haven't heard yet, but I keep checking the online application status and I might go home on my lunch break to check the mail. Is that getting too anxious? Oh my. Deep breaths.
Yeah, I get frustrated with the bureaucracy nonsense and I don't have that extra layer of dealing with two different national systems. It does seem that the problem may be that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Even if you've adequately explained your situation to one person, it stays with them and others will raise the same objection. No doubt we'll be facing this sort of nonsense all the time as nurses. In any case, I think this program in particular seems to value diversity in applicants' backgrounds, so that speaks well for your chances. And Shelli seems pretty competent. It seems hard to believe she would present someone to the faculty for consideration and they would reject the person for the reasons you state without checking in with Shelli first to see why she pushed that person through. You know what I mean?

Thats true, well Shelli told me that she got her degree from the UK as well and so she said that she would probably personally have to present my case to the faculty as she has the most understanding of the UK education system.
So I have faith that Shelli will explain it well, plus my Professor explained the degree I studied in quite a lot of detail in his recommendation letter, so hopefully that'll help!
I think my background is extremley diverse cause my parents are originally from Iraq.. Shelli said that it seemed like I had quite a story to tell...I just hope I told it well in my personal statement!
I can't take this anymore. Why can't we just email Shelli and ask her.
Hang in there! I think we'll find out by tomorrow or the next day. Good thing this forum exists 'cause I don't think my friends realize how nerve wracking this is!
I honestly think they have already made their decisions. They probably made them in the last two weeks, but why they don't just e-mail us, I DO NOT understand. I hope they don't make you wait for everything else in the mail as well.

I can't wait anymore. I am sooo anxious to find out. Has anyone tried going online and checking decision status.
