Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

I'm still hoping for martinis and a performance by Sarah. Not loosing hope yet :)

Hahaha if we get in, I promise to give you a concert! :p

I think around 150 applied. Honestly I regret not applying to more programs specifically designed for non-nurses to become NPs. That's my goal. I know there is more than one way to get there, but looking back, I should have applied to more programs. I read on the Columbia ETP thread that they accept around 70% of the applicants. That may or may not be true, but now I wonder why I didn't just give it a shot. I really didn't want to accumulate the extra debt, but it seems like a great program.

Hang in there everyone!!

Yeah I totally know what you mean. I was kicking myself in the butt last week for not looking further into more programs and not having applied to more of the NP programs. I figured I would start with two programs and then go from there, so I only applied to USD and UCLA. I am accepted to USD, but if I don't get into UCLA, I am maybe considering holding off and re-applying, but I also don't wanna loose my spot at USD. It's such a hard decision!! Do I just start the USD program (even though it's gonna be ridiculously expensive) or do I wait and reapply at cheaper schools?? But yeah, the CSULA program looks like a great program. I hope you get in :)

Musictonurse you should go to USD if you don't get into UCLA, why put off another year? I'm sure once you start earning, you can repay those loans.

I'd love to have a back up plan :/

Haha good thinking!

Maybe they did it backwards this year, rejection letters out first and then acceptance letters? If that's the case.. Bring on waiting till next week!!

Yes, I hope UCLA has it all backwards this year. haha. Hang in there Sarah. I'm telling the UK postal system to get on the ball and get this BIG envelope to you ASAP! I want my performance! lol

Awww thanks, and likewise! I hope you find a nice BIG brown envelope tomorrow!

I dreamt last night that I went to my postbox and found a large brown manilla envelope with the UCLA stamp on it and I opened it and it said I was accepted! That was a nice dream.. It felt so real, I woke up smiling!

Thanks! We will see. I just want all the build up to be over. Yeah, I was having more dreams last night, only they were still bad dreams :( I think I probably will end up going to USD. Thanks for the advice :) I think you're right. I don't wanna wait around another year and these programs are getting more and more competitive so who knows if I'll get in somewhere else next year. And USD is a wonderful program. I really love the students and faculty in the program.

Hang in there everyone, and let us know if you got in so we can congratulate you! :nurse: (what a cute icon)

Just got the mail here in norcal only to find a little white envelope. So no UCLA for me. I also got rejected from Colorado Denver. So 2 rejections in one day is not fun right now. Good luck to the rest of you though, maybe if those of you who got accepted could let us know how you did it. And to whoever gets on the waiting list, consider yourself lucky. At least you have a chance and weren't flat out rejected.

Please don't be discouraged. And remember that there were 480 applicants, so it's not like you were one out of 25. This is almost like a lottery!

You will find a program that's right for you soon! :)

Thats very true, everyone who has spoken about USD's program have sang it's praises, so you've done well to get accepted there since it is also a very competitive program!

But you never know, you might still have a nice acceptance letter waiting for you tomorrow! lets try and keep positive!! :nurse:

I'm sorry to hear that...did you apply elsewhere?

gosh it really is sounding like all the rejection letters got sent out first :/

'Could be...although I think we figured the acceptance rate is around 10-12%, and we've only seen 4 rejections (I think) and a waitlist.

Thats true, I'm sure the 480+ applicants aren't all on this forum (although i wish they were)..so it would just be unfortunate that the people that do post on this forum aren't the lucky 10-12%

This is getting depressing and frustrating :banghead:

yeah i kinda doubt it's the rejection letters first. Shelli said they all went out on Friday.
