Did anyone apply to UCLA's MECN Program for Fall 2009?

Published

Just wondering if anyone else applied to this program. I went to UCLA for undergrad but I pretty much think I have no shot of getting into this grad program.

Does anyone know anything about how many people they admit? What they are looking for?

Thanks Mateo. I think "later part of this week" could mean today, which means presumably some people local could get there's as early as Saturday (maybe even tomorrow). I would expect most people will get there's early next week, unless they live ridiculously far away, like, say the UK or something...

Hahaha well airmail only takes 3 days! :p

Who lives in the uk???

Who lives in the uk???

Haha I do!!!

Nothing in the mail today.

I just got back from CSUF interview. I totally tanked it as I always do. All my hopes are on UCLA as they are the only one not to do interview. They did a group interview, and as I was not very assertive type, I didn't speak much. I just am not that kind of person. As for individual interview, I think mine was the shortest. I could sense that I blew away any chance I had of getting into CSUF.

Anyway, the worst news was that CSUF being CA state university and CA being in such a bad shape economically, CSUF cut their master-entry program enrollment from 68 to 36. They are admitting only half. That makes me wonder what impact economy is having on other CA universities such as UCLA, CSULA, and CSULB. I wonder if they are cutting enrollment as well.

Sorry to be such a downer, folks.

Its ok msnapplicant, it will all workout for the best. You will be ok. I am worried. Think about how I feel, I only applied to UCLA. I was wandering the same thing. I wonder how the economy may have impacted the amount of people accepted into the programs. There was nothing in the mail today too. If you live in So. Cal you will probably hear Saturday or Monday. It's a very competitive market out there. I am sure everything will fall into place.

Have you been accepted into any other program?

I doubt UCLA is being affected, I'm sure they have a lot of international students to bring in extra $$$.

Thanks for nice words. I haven't been accepted to any program yet. I thought I might get in CSUF because last year 180 people applied and they admit 68 people. This year 300 or 400 people (I forgot which) applied, and they are admiting only 36. Good news was that I was one of 72 finalists who they interviewed today. But after interview, I don't think 50:50 is going to help me.

And obviously admission to UCLA and CSULA is only harder.

I hope they don't reduce enrollment. I think UCLA will get more dough from state, and CSULA admit only 20 people, so not much to reduce. But still, I think such large cutting at CSUF and other places can only make things even more competitive.

I know what you're saying. I have been sitting here reviewing my grades, personal statement, and resume, and I hope to god I was strong enough. I wish there were stats available from previous cohorts at UCLA. I have no clue as to how I compare to everyone.

That's true, but I'm surprised there are SO many applicants, given the current state of the economy.

But keep positive, nothing is impossible!

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

This field will only become more and more competitive in the future. It is so hard to get into any anatomy or physiology class at all the colleges. Those classes are always the first to fill up.
