Just saw on the news where this well known hospital were developing robots to work in their ER.
See the weblink here: Developing Robots for the Hospital Emergency Room - US News and World Report
Do you think nurses could be out of a job in the future (or have even more difficulty getting a job) if this idea works out or catches on?
What are your thoughts on the matter?
*Vent* RN's make toast?!?!?! - Nursing for Nursesbut think how useful they'd be....
Actually, my hubby was talking about IP addresses and electronic equipment; his theory is that soon all our appliances will have their own IP addresses. I remarked, "So Big Brother wants to see if I burn the toast...?"
oh my! That thread was crazy! Nurses making toast? Well, now we could have robots to make some toast. Bahahaha! Seriously, they could be useful for some things such as delivering mail or MAYBE meds, but they will not take the place of a nurse! Too much critical thinking involved. I think it would just get in my way so I'd just tell it to go fetch some water or something.
I think some are being a little naive. Hospitals are run by businessman and they are not TRYING to lighten the load of current nursing staff as much as they are looking to increase profits. Even if you only have a bot gathering basic demographic info and taking vitals that one bot works 24/7 365 and requires no benefits, salary, sick days, attention etc. Even at a cost of 50k per bot it will pay for itself in less than a year. It will not replace nurses but it will reduce the number of human nurses present in a bot enhanced ER.

That's where my thoughts lay on this subject also Conqueror+! I mean, it may seem all good @ first, but are we really thinking on the effects long term?
