Barely out of report and hand-irrigating 3-way Foley with CBI for many clots; repeat numerous times over next 8 hours; call doc 3 times for orders. Replace cath with another #24FR cath. Still clotting frequently. CT scan results = probably cancer, OR in a.m. Five other patients receive minimal care.

So tired after today I don't think my fingers can type 50 words nor can my brain think of them. Terrible day. Nut case kept me busy + 5 others.

Today was the first day that was so bad I almost cried. Pt came out of the ICU unstable and the rest of the shift went to s***. I honestly felt that my license (that I don't even have yet) was in jeopardy.

First night on nights. I wasn't able to sleep during the day yesterday. Been up 24 hours taking care of winey (on the call light constantly) people ALL night. Exhausted - not sure if I'm cut out for nights!

Sorry you had a bad day. Unfortuneately there will be plenty more to come but you'll adjust and end up loving every minute of it. Cheers!

Awww . . thanks Dutchgirl. I usually do love it. (Even the bad ones.) Yesterday was the first day I felt like I was practicing unsafely. I hope it's the last for awhile.

This isn't my last day as nursing but my last day as a blood drawer.! Good stuff! Still miss the hospital and the people I work with.

Busy saturday morning 5am-1:30pm. So busy no lunch! Got a break and my co-worker spilt her flamming hot coffee on me. Wasn't intentional. My last draw was the most memorable though. I drew a little 13 year old girl. She was very tough and required 2 sticks. Her mom ended up passing out:uhoh3: . I was speechless. I didn't think I did that bad. So I told the nurse and the little girl and her mom were in the same er room with 2 beds in there. Hehe.

Well take care all

Hey, Jen! It took me a year to get adjusted to nights. I've been on it for 16 months now. I had a lot of sleepless days first. Try to darken your bedroom as much as possible, such as with tin foil on windows, this helps. I also have a fan going, to provide white noise, that drowns out the sounds around me. Avoid drinking caffeine the last 2-3 hours of your shift. Taking a hot bath or shower before going to bed sometimes helps too! Hang in there!
