Deportation of Undocumented Immigrants in the US

came across this news article, related to what suzanne had been saying all along...

public arrests cause panic in immigrants

villega, like many undocumented immigrants in the filipino community in the united states, entered the country legally as a tourist visa in 2003. he decided to overstay however when he was diagnosed with diabetes, claiming that he feared returning to the philippines because the lack of his resources there meant a more debilitating condition. his daughter, a legal immigrant who came with a student visa, was set to petition him in 2010 when she becomes a u.s. citizen.

villega is now awaiting a hearing with homeland security in march.villega's arrest is part of a seemingly new strategy of partnerships being undertaken by immigration authorities to curb the growth of undocumented immigrants in the u.s.

. . .

villega's arrest is part of a seemingly new strategy of partnerships being undertaken by immigration authorities to curb the growth of undocumented immigrants in the u.s.

. . .

local officers trained under 287 (g) learn to use ice and homeland security department databases to find out a person's immigration status. in addition, police now also have access to civil immigration warrants (also known as outstanding deportation orders), many of which were added beginning in 2002 to the fbi-run national crime information center, formerly a database only for criminals.

increasingly, because of this policy, undocumented immigrants are now being caught during routine traffic violations.

. . .

for villega, it came down to a simple sentiment. "when they arrested me, i cried. and then i was just consumed with anger." "binastos nila ako. we are not criminals. why do we have to be treated this way?"

ice is not acting only with tsa, they're also working with bus companies...

HI,

Which country are you talkin about, is it the USA or Phillipines?

Because i it is the USA i thought you could own a property with a permanent residency?

He is talking about the Philippines.

I think we should give the Philippines to the U.S. or any other country interested because no one is content with whoever gets elected as president.

Now that you have a feel of how the government works here, I hope you now understand why so many Filipinos want to get out of the country...Policies and the way government runs things here are so bad. Philippines and its leaders do not fully understand LPR status, hence it's a shame...A pity that we will celebrate independence day tomorrow here yet I cannot fully say that we are independent or can be independent...What is the use of independence when your country cannot stand on its own and when its citizens do not wish to stay...

Better if Philippine leaders in the past just allowed Philippines to be under US territory...There is no legacy here, only suffering and corruption handed down from one generation to the next(the other).

I read of lot of comments like this on this board, and I always wonder, well, what are the Filipino people doing to change that?? I'm sorry things are so bad in the PI, but that doesn't mean that it is the responsibility of other countries to "rescue" you from your own government.

how do you report illegal immigrants, do you have to get their SSN or just give their address to the authorities or something? My father is an illegal immigrant in the US , together with his "other" family. Im hoping he can be deported, he has pending abandonment and domestic abuse case here, he wont even sign the annulment papers. He needs to be deported

Illegal immigrants normally do not have legal SSN#s.

You can contact ICE, or the immigration dept where you are living and report him if this is what you wish to do.

no matter what many Filipinos say about their own country, i still am and will forever be proud to be a Filipino.

and i still dream of one day going back to and settling down in my motherland.

it's bad enough that the Philippines is in its current state. what makes it worse (in my personal opinion) are Filipinos themselves badmouthing their own country. Filipinos may be the only people in the world who are ashamed of who they are and where they came from. heck! even Mexicans (with all the bad publicity they have been getting) are damn proud of who they are as a people and they are proud of their heritage.

stop whining and start working!

are you familiar with this line-- "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country."

My dad loved his home country but hated the communism that was on going in the USSR in his life time. He worked hard here as an anti-communism spoke person.

He continued a semi secular life, very involved in the Russian community, read Russian newspaper, and was an activist.

But he also embrace the USA. He was a very proud American, his was very patriotic and civic minded. He was an American first, and Russian second. He

He never was able to make in back to Russia, I think the memories gave his happy childhood a mythical quality.

My point is if ones comes to the USA, be proud to become an American we are a melting pot. Embrace your heritage, but your should be immigrating to be part of the USA and not a long term visitor just trying to cash in and make money. It is just my experience but also the same experience millions of American families have in common.

There is no need to import workers, but when retrogression lifts all Americans welcome legal immigrants who wish to add to the fabric of this country and contribute to the USA, but one should never be ashame of their mother land .

Just giving a friendly reminder to everyone to stay on track within the topic.

Thanks.

I think no matter how bad our economy is getting i think its not fair to say that we should just let another country run or colonize it, people from other countries my also have bits and pieces of problems with their homeland, eg insurance, healthcare etc. I am proud to be Filipino, we should be. I took this course not so I could come to the US and cash in and make money but this is what I love to do and I want to make a difference in other peoples lives. I want to work in the US someday but that doesnt mean ill turn my back on my homeland. If you are FIlipino, stand up and be proud that you are one, stop bashing and bad mouthing our country. The problems are there, just try to make a difference.

Not sure what you are talking of, there is no other country that is trying to colonize yours. And to look at it from the other side, others should not be telling American's what we need to be doing so that they can work here quicker. Your country will not permit any foreigner to even get licensed there either.

Try to make a difference in your country and get things back to what they were, not what they have become. This is something that all of you can do if you do things as a group and explain to others what needs to be done and should be done.

Letting bureaucrats make the rules for something that they know nothing of is how things have gotten so bad to begin with. Start with getting that changed and cleaning up things there first.

Closing this thread as it is continuously getting off-track from the original topic w/c is Deportation of Undocumented Immigrants in the US.
