Denver College of Nursing - January 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all!

Looking to connect with others who applied for the January 2021 cohort at Denver College of Nursing.

@Meg21

My GPA was 3.8, I also had healthcare experience. I’ve been working as an ophthalmic technician for 5 years. I’ve heard from previous DCN students that GPA isn’t the biggest thing they look at. They look at volunteering as well if you have any healthcare experience.

Good luck on your journey! I have my interview set for Thursday and will let you know how it goes. I’ve heard that the interview is super informal and if you pass your HESI you’re basically in.

Is everyone required to take the HESI? What if you already have a degree? If so what are the section of the HESI which are tested. Thank You!

You only have to take the HESI if you don’t have a bachelors degree already. The sections are over math, reading, vocabulary, and grammar.

Got it. Thanks for your quick reply! Best of luck to you : ) I just applied for the April cohort!

Does anyone have information on the in house financing that is determined by credit eligibility. I know there is an option to make payments while in school, is there another option thru in-house financing that is paid post graduation? Thanks ?

Hello everyone! I am looking to apply to DCN for the July '21 start, and I was wondering if anyone who got an interview/been accepted would be willing to share their GPA, healthcare experience, etc.

Hey guys, responding to the requests for info on accepted applicants. I was accepted for January and I have my bachelor's with a cGPA of 2.9, prereq GPA of 3.4. I was an EMT for 1 year and a paramedic for a year and a half, 6 months of that as a critical care paramedic. I also have a decent amount of volunteer hours from creating a youth EMS program. I applied a few years ago with only about 6 months of EMT experience and no volunteer experience and I got waitlisted. I think having more healthcare experience this time around is what got me into the program.

Hey everyone! I will be applying for the July 2020 start date and am having some trouble keeping my personal statement only one page.

I have almost ten years of LPN experience with 2 of CNA experience and it's hard for me to sum that down in one page.

Can others who got in please let me know if you only used one page double spaced and what your key points were?

Thank you!!

@CHP25 thank you so much for taking the time to share those wonderful tips -- your post really solidified my excitement for attending DCN!

@Momof3 the admission requirements state that the personal essay needs to be one-page, so I would highly recommend keeping it to that. I discussed my healthcare related work experience, what skills would get me through the program, and where I saw myself as a future nurse.

For those asking about accepted applicant info:

I was accepted into the January cohort with a prereq GPA of 3.8 and cumulative GPA of 3.4. I didn't have any outstanding prerequisites at the time of my application. I had some healthcare related work experience (CNA, Microbiology lab assistant), along with a good amount of volunteer experience. I spent a lot of time on my personal statement, which I believe was one of the key factors for my acceptance.
