Denver College of Nursing - January 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all!

Looking to connect with others who applied for the January 2021 cohort at Denver College of Nursing.

Thank you! Good luck on your interview. Hopefully you hear back from him soon. Do you have to take the HESI?

Congratulations you guys hopefully I get an email ? now im even more anxious a letter means you did not get access ?.

@Jenn86I hope you get an email too! Fingers crossed for you!

Yes, I will have to take the HESI. It looks like there are some great study guides out there so I'm not terribly worried about that.

Same here, you got this!!

Congratulations to those who got an interview! I have also heard from current DCON students that the interview is informal and more of an orientation meeting. I haven’t received an email yet...very anxious!

@Jenn86 one of my friends who applied received an email earlier today saying she wasn’t accepted — so don’t lose hope! Hopefully we both hear back soon.

@saraco humm that's interesting they normally only send rejection letters through the mail. I just got an email for the alternate list. Im OK with that. I was on the alternate list the first time I applied and ended up getting in for the April start date. But either way I now have to wait for November 12th. I just want to get in. I hope you get in.

Had anyone had their interview yet? If so how did it go? ?

hi @emarie111! my interview is scheduled for October 19th -- I believe all of the interviews for this cohort were scheduled for the month of October! When do you have yours?

How has HESI preparation been going for you? @Heather de Alva

Hi Everyone,

I'm a DCN grad and I thought I would drop a comment with a few tips on navigating nursing school.

For starters, If you received an invite for an interview, you're in!

DCN is an amazing school full of amazing instructors. The price tag is steep, but the education you receive is world-class. My good friend attended Metropolitan State University and had a nightmare of an experience and never finished. She recently told me that she wishes she had attended DCN.

Next piece of advice, take pathophysiology at DCN even if you have already taken it elsewhere. Nursing is a unique science and taking nursing patho is a great foundation for your education. Classmates of mine who didn't retake patho did poorly throughout school.

Rent your books, I paid an arm and a leg for my books and rarely opened them. The three books I would invest in are Davis Drug Guide, Nursing Diagnosis Handbook, and the red HESI book. Everything else will be a good reference, but I promise you that you won't have time to read them so don't pay the full price for them.

Quizlet.com is your new best friend. There are millions of nursing school questions on Quizlet. Get good at searching and you may even find some of the questions that end up on your test. Nursing school is all about how to pass the NCLEX so get really good at answering nursing questions.

Make friends with your classmates. You will be hangin with them every day for the next 2 years. The will be your only allies and trust me when I say that you will rely on them heavily.

Apply for all of the posted clinicals even if you don't think it will interest you. I failed to apply for a med-surg peds rotation because I'm not interested in working with children and my classmates that did apply ended up in a peds emergency department and had a great experience. Meanwhile, I worked as an elementary school nurse putting on bandaids.

Finally, the best piece of advice ill give is probably the one no one will consider. don't TAKE NURSING SCHOOL TOO SERIOUSLY. No one will argue that nursing school is difficult but you don't have to lose your mind. Stay on top of your studies by doing a little bit every day. don't cram! Go out and buy a recorder and record every lecture. Then listen to the recording while you review your notes. Use your free time wisely, but remember to TAKE TIME FOR YOU! I am by far no genius, but I graduated with honors, 3.8 GPA, and still had time binge watch TV shows, go to the gym, and get a full night's sleep. The only time I had less than 8 hours of sleep was after a night of partying with my classmates. If you let the stress get to you, it will be your demise.

Good luck to all of you!! DCN is the perfect place to learn how to be a fantastic nurse!

Thank you so much for all the insight. I have my HESI this week and my interview next week and I’m super nervous. I heard the interview is really in formal. Has anyone had their interview yet?

Would anyone who got an interview or waitlisted mind sharing GPA or experience they had or any tips? I am a pre-nursing student and DCN is my top choice right now, so I'm trying to get an idea for what they're looking for!
