For those residing in NY and have been approved for DACA:Have you taken your NCLEX, or applying for it? If so, question #22 under citizenship/immigration status which choice did you select?ncjaio.jpgThe one that makes the most sense is choice H. Non-Immigrant (Temporarily in U.S).On the blank space below for immigration status should I write: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (c33)? It's a new process so it only makes sense as to why it's not included as a choice. But I'm afraid that the BON might not be too familiar with DACA and might delay my application.Any thoughts? Any information related to this is very much appreciated. Thank you.

@deafeningthoughts I am a DACA senior nursing student from NC. My NC driver's licensee says "legal presence no lawful status" do you think this may put me in the clear to take the nclex or does it pretty much mean the same thing as "temp"?

You are able to take your NCLEX but you CANNOT use your driver's license because "legal presence no lawful status" means the same thing as temp. However, you can sit for your NCLEX as long as you use your UNEXPIRED NATIVE PASSPORT.

Most of you are concerned if you are able to take the NCLEX depending on the state you live in. DACA gave us the opportunity to be able to work. Therefore, I don't see an issue why your respective states won't allow you to sit for your NCLEX and grant you your license once you have passed. You need to provide the correct identification in order to be permitted to take the exam at a Pearson Vue Testing location. However, I CAN ONLY VOUCH FOR NEW YORK FROM MY EXPERIENCE, I CANNOT GIVE ADVICE FOR OTHER STATES. (For those who mentioned that your state does not allow you to take the NCLEX, can you explain to me what the reasons were?)

From MY Experience in January 2014 in New York, I used my unexpired native passport with no problem and received my license. Currently, I am working at a hospital in a med-surg unit for over a year. Good luck to all and God bless!

IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

When you arrive at the test center, you will be required to present one form of acceptable identification. If you arrive at the test center without acceptable identification, you will be turned away and required to reregister and pay another exam fee.

All forms of identification must be valid (non-expired), government-issued identification containing the following information:

Name (in Roman characters)

Recent photograph

Signature

Examples of acceptable forms of identification for domestic test centers are:

Passport books and cards

Driver's license

Provincial/Territorial or state identification card

Permanent residence card

Military identification card

Temporary identification (examples include limited term IDs and any ID reading temp” or temporary”) is only acceptable if it meets the required elements stated above.

I'm also a DACA recipient. Did any of you guys go through private school to become an RN? I'm from Texas. Here we have in state tuition for undocumented students most of the private schools however won't take me for their RN programs mostly due to financial aid. Can you guys share your stories about where you received your nursing training and if it was through a public institution or private. Thanks so much!

....I will complete my RN training through a public institution and I am considered in state, though my experience is very interesting...... So from my understanding DACA students are automatically enrolled as out of state in NC irregardless of whether public or private. However, I attended this same institution while in high school in an early college program so once I applied to the institution as a freshman, I am guessing that since my information was already in the system, everything transferred. As a result, my rate was in state.

Deafeningthoughts which hospital do you work in? Is is a private or public hospital? (i live in new york). I was wondering if they take in DACA applicants....my hope is to get a hospital job in the future

I am planning to take my NCLEX-RN in california. I have DACA status.

I've been hearing so much different stuff I'm not sure who's right and who's wrong.

Do you know where or whom I should ask regarding this issues?

Hi,

Were you guys able to find out more information on this issue? I feel like we are always at a loss :(. I graduated 2 weeks ago with my BSN and am not sure if I can sit for the NCLEX. I live in Georgia.. Does anyone live in Georgia that has been able to or not been able to receive their license? Does Georgia allow you to endorse your license if you have DACA status if you get it from a different state? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello All

I wanted share my experience with you all. I am DACA status from NC, recently graduated May 2016, took my NCLEX June 2016 showed my foreign passport as a form of identification and it was acceptable. Prepared with Kaplan and passed.

I am so glad to hear that!! I was wondering how you filled out the application? Did you write DACA as immigration status? I will be graduating this year and was wondering if I'd be able to sit for the test at all. I am also in NC. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you.
