Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Nclex-RN NY
Most of you are concerned if you are able to take the NCLEX depending on the state you live in. DACA gave us the opportunity to be able to work. Therefore, I don't see an issue why your respective states won't allow you to sit for your NCLEX and grant you your license once you have passed. You need to provide the correct identification in order to be permitted to take the exam at a Pearson Vue Testing location. However, I CAN ONLY VOUCH FOR NEW YORK FROM MY EXPERIENCE, I CANNOT GIVE ADVICE FOR OTHER STATES. (For those who mentioned that your state does not allow you to take the NCLEX, can you explain to me what the reasons were?) From MY Experience in January 2014 in New York, I used my unexpired native passport with no problem and received my license. Currently, I am working at a hospital in a med-surg unit for over a year. Good luck to all and God bless! According to NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing: https://www.ncsbn.org/1221.htm IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS When you arrive at the test center, you will be required to present one form of acceptable identification. If you arrive at the test center without acceptable identification, you will be turned away and required to reregister and pay another exam fee. All forms of identification must be valid (non-expired), government-issued identification containing the following information: Name (in Roman characters) Recent photograph Signature Examples of acceptable forms of identification for domestic test centers are: Passport books and cards Driver's license Provincial/Territorial or state identification card Permanent residence card Military identification card Temporary identification (examples include limited term IDs and any ID reading temp†or temporaryâ€) is only acceptable if it meets the required elements stated above.

https://www.ncsbn.org/1221.htm You are able to take your NCLEX but you CANNOT use your driver's license because "legal presence no lawful status" means the same thing as temp. However, you can sit for your NCLEX as long as you use your UNEXPIRED NATIVE PASSPORT.

I am just going to reiterate what I said before regarding MY experience from January 2014: 1) Once you get your ATT and scheduled a test, use your unexpired native passport. 2) If/When you pass your NCLEX, you WILL receive your nursing license.

I am speaking from my experience taking the NCLEX January 2014 in New York. Your native passport IS a government issued ID and therefore should match with the name on your ATT. DO NOT use your NY state ID. Use your unexpired native passport.

I live in NY so I'm not sure about how Florida or SC works.

No I don't believe I had to submit documentation to prove that I have DACA but check anyway if they require it. I used my native country passport. DO NOT use your NY state ID. It says temporary visitor on it and they will not let you sit for the test. As long as you use your passport from your native country (make sure it's not expired) then you do not have to worry. They do not ask you for your status when you go to Pearson for your NCLEX

Yes I live in New York and took the exam on January 2014. 1) On question 22 for immigration status, I chose H. and wrote Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. 2) I used my passport as identification to sit for the NCLEX with no issues.

Yes I took my NCLEX January 2014. Use your passport when you take your NCLEX.

Underpaid DACA Agency Nurse
Yes. On question #22 about immigration. I chose H. non-immigrant and put Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals on the blank space (https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/deferred-action-for-798512.html#post7223834). When you take your NCLEX make sure to use your passport not your driver's license since it says "temporary visitor" and they won't accept it.

Underpaid DACA Agency Nurse
Yes I believe so. On the immigration status question I chose non-immigrant and wrote Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Did you do the same when you applied in South Carolina? Also, when I took my NCLEX, I used my passport as identification and not my driver's license since it says temporary visitor which they do not accept

Underpaid DACA Agency Nurse
Yes I was able to get my license in New York with DACA. I'm currently working in a hospital as an agency RN. Which state are you from?

Underpaid DACA Agency Nurse
I understand that. I would not be getting a path to permanent residence through DACA. My current employer is sponsoring me. My question was, if there was anyone who is also getting underpaid due to the fact that they are getting sponsored and what is the process.

Underpaid DACA Agency Nurse
I was granted a 2 year renewable work permit under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). As a new graduate nurse looking for any position available, I got employed in a nursing agency. At the time I accepted the job, they offered me $30/hr (I live in NY) with a 1 year contract. A month or two after, I learned from my coworkers that the baseline wage for an agency nurse runs between $38-40/hr. My colleagues who are associate degree new grads like myself working in the same hospital are getting paid $40/hr. My agency said that they will provide sponsorship as long as I pay the $500+ fee and fill out the paperwork. I know that as a non-immigrant that I don't have plenty of choices. What I do want to know is: 1) if there is anyone who is in a similar position as me, being underpaid due to status? If they are underpaying me due to my status or their intent to provide sponsorship, I would have appreciated it if they made me aware of that. I did ask them and their response was $30/hr was the standard pay for starting nurses (which is not true as mentioned above). 2) Has anyone been sponsored by an employer? How does the process work (fees, paperwork)? And are you then bound to work for them forever? Please no negative comments. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

If you go to the NCSBN website: https://www.ncsbn.org/1221.htm it clearly states that, "Driver's/learner's permits or temporary identification are not accepted". Limited term driver's license falls under temporary identification therefore will not be accepted. I used my passport for identification and was able to take the test. Did the friend that you have with "limited term" license as well take it at the same place your sister was supposed to?

Yes, they let me sit for the test. I'm not sure if you obtain your driver's license in Florida if it says "Temporary" / "Limited". If it does, they're unacceptable forms of ID. Make sure to bring your passport.
